Mlini is a pretty little fishing village 9 km south of Dubrovnik, the cultural capital of Croatia and UNESCO World Heritage site, otherwise known as the Jewel in the Adriatic.

Mlini is protected by high mountains and is surrounded by pine and Cyprus trees. It has a peaceful atmosphere but still has sufficient restaurants and café bars where you can sit and watch the sunset over the Adriatic sea whilst sampling locally produced cuisine and wine.


We started our love affair with Croatia in 1997 when we first stayed near to Porec in Istria. Over the years we worked our way down to Dubrovnik via Primosten, Brac, Makarska, Kolocep and Korcula. We have visited the Dubrovnik region and Mlini since 2000. We love Croatia and fell in love with the charm of Mlini so much that we decided to buy an apartment. Apartment Jane is the result of this and was completed to a very high standard in spring 2005.

Apartment Jane is situated in the residential area of Brasina, Mlini within a block of 11 other apartments. It is close to most local amenities and is a 15 minute walk to the beaches.

Apartment Jane is on the third/top floor and is reached by two flights of steps to the front door. At this point there is a lobby and an internal front door and stairs to the lounge area.

Please note that the apartment is not suitable for wheelchair access.

The apartment is 75 square metres and consists of: a lounge area with Sat TV, a dining area for 6 people, a fitted kitchen with electric hob and fitted fridge, a breakfast bar, 2 bedrooms [one double and one twin], bathroom [with shower and washing machine] and 2 balconies – one facing east and one facing west. A double sofa bed is also available in the lounge. The apartment also has air conditioning and heating in the main living area.
 

The apartment is in a residential area called Brasina in Mlini and is within easy reach of the airport at Cilipi with a transfer time by road of approximately 15 - 20 minutes. The apartment is not however, under the direct flight path of the airport.

There are a number of small local shops where fresh provisions can be bought within a 5 minute walking distance. Alternatively, there are two larger stores, Mercator and Konzum, in Srebreno [about a 10 - 15 minute walk from the apartment] where there is also a bank with ATMs in English, a pharmacy, a post office and a few café bars.

For even bigger shopping trips there is Getro, situated in Zupa, a 10 minute drive from the apartment. Getro is a large store similar to a cash and carry but open to the public. There are a number of other supermarkets in the area.

For meals out, the resort of Mlini has a selection of restaurants. The centre of Mlini is only a 10 - 15 minute walk away. There are a few clubs and late bars in Srebreno for those who like to dance the night away.

If you enjoy watching yachts in the harbour then Cavtat is only a 10 minute drive away. Alternatively, a night out in Dubrovnik is only a 20 minute drive from the apartment.

You do not need to rely on a car around here. There is a local bus service [number 10] that runs every hour into Dubrovnik Old Town and the bus station and out to Cavtat. Although they can get busy in the height of season we have found that bus number 16 does a different route and can be less busy!

There is also a taxi boat service to Dubrovnik and Cavtat as well as other water based activities [see below]. Take a trip to the main harbour at Gruz in Dubrovnik to see a few larger sea going vessels. Taxis operate from the main areas in Dubrovnik and quite often the waiters at any restaurant will call one for you if you miss the bus!

 

Boat, cycle and scooter hire is available in the centre of Mlini. If you can't bear the thought of being too far away from technology, an internet cafe has recently opened up in Mlini.

For those who like to dive or snorkel Mlini is home to a PADI diving centre offering activities for both experienced divers and beginners. Off shore and in shore diving is available including night dives and under water video facilities to allow you to watch the under water activities without getting wet.

For the more adventurous person it is possible to go into the mountains on a Jeep Safari. Horse riding is possible as well and is usually operated from a location between the airport and Molunat. These activities need to be arranged through one of the companies running excursions. 

Although the apartment has one double and one twin bedroom it does also have a double sofa bed in the living area. Therefore, a maximum of 6 people could stay in the apartment but this would have to be by prior arrangement. Please note there is a minimum booking for three nights. The air conditioner is also capable fo providing heating and is in the main living area.

The apartment comprises 2 bedrooms in total; 1 double, 1 twin. The property also has 1 double sofa bed located in the In the living area. This gives room for up to 4 people. Bed linen and towels are provided for your use.

The apartment has 1 bathrooms and 1 WCs for your party's use. Air-conditioning keeps the apartment cool.

The apartment has television satellite/cable. The music system will play cds, radio.

There is room for 4 in the living room and 6 in the dining room. To prepare food you will find a cooker, a microwave, a fridge, a kettle, a toaster. You will also find a washing machine, an iron and ironing board. The owner has also provided cutlery, crockery, glassware, cooking utensils.

The apartment is in a quiet area but you may hear occasional noise. It has a east facing balcony.

The apartment is right beside walking.

Close to the apartment you will find a beach, swimming, sailing, water skiing, boat hire, wind surfing, fishing, cycling, scuba diving, shopping areas, a restaurant, a food shop.

Within easy reach of the apartment you will find climbing, flying, mountain biking, horse riding, tennis, historic sites, a museum, a theatre/cinema.

Excursions to Montenegro and Serbia/Mostar. Jeep safaris. Horseriding Vineyards.

Dubrovnik old town, a UNESCO world Heritage Site. The medieval town of Cavtat.
