If you like peace and tranquility, magnificant sea and mountain views, you will fall in love with LAzohia. Appropriately, the name La Azohia itself means escape.

We hope to provide you with a little escape at our new and tastefully furnished two bedroom apartment on the top floor of the El Pinar De San Gines Complex.

From this very tasteful development, built in the traditional Andalucian pueblo style, it is five minutes walk to the sea along a road lined with deliciously scented pines, and glimpses of well-established villas.

Turn left and walk along the promenade passing palm trees, bougainvillea, sandy stretches and rocky coves until 15/20minutes later you will find yourself in the little fishing village of LAzohia. Here life carries on as it always has and you can watch the fishermen bring in their daily catches of tuna. On the headland beyond is the old 16th century pirate look-out tower to add to the charm and is flood-lit at night.

However, a 15 minute walk is likely to become a longer stroll as you will be temped to sit and take in the views, or stop at one of the local tapas bars or check out the possibilities at one of the diving schools, which Azohia has become famous for. The pristine waters are a playground for fishermen and divers. Swimming and snorkelling are very popular here, especially as Azohia boasts an average of 300 sunny days a year. Even in the height of summer here the beaches are never crowded and in the middle of winter you can enjoy clear, sunny days and delightful temperatures. The area is also ideal for sailing, windsurfing, cycling, golf and at the nearby 4 star Hotel LAzohia non-residents can use their Spa. A lot of the activies do not run during the winter months but I have enjoyed cycling and many interesting walks during this time.
 

For those who like hiking, the mountains which parallel the coast give an endless variety of vistas - in fact you can walk up the mountain directly behing El Pinar. In the valley behind, a road snakes up to Cabo Tinoso. Here is the biggest cannon you are ever likely to see with an amazing range of 35 km! These gun batteries were built in the early 1930s for the defence of Cartagena, the headquarers of the Spanish Mediterranean fleet. Quite apart from the historic interest, the views fom this height towards Cartagena and acrosss the Bay of Mazarron are stunning.

Still on the subject of hiking and mountains, about an hours drive away, is the fantastic mountain park of Sierra Espuna, south west of Murcia, with its deep valleys and high peaks. You can sometimes even enjoy snow in the higher elevations in the winter months. It is home to pine and oak forests and a wide range of animals and huge birds of prey, circling overhead in the thermals. There are also hundreds of kilometers of mountain biking trails in the Sierra Espuna.
 

If you do not want to leave El Pinar itself, there is no need because there are swimming pools on the complex and ample opportunity to sunbathe and relax on the large solarium, taking in the views - and in the evening enjoy a drink and BBQ as you watch the Mediterranean turn red with the rays of the setting sun There are some lovely restaurants in the area as well as local traditional Spanish tapas bars. Please note that these bara are closed during the winter months, but you will find late night dining in Isla Plan (5 mins drive) or Mazarron (10 minutes drive).

The large port of Mazarron has all the attractions, amenities and activities of a big town as well as the Sunday market..and 20 minutes drive over the mountains to Cartagena you not only have a large city with its fantastic shopping (including Carrefour and El Corte Ingles), bars and restaurants along the seafront and in the narrow medieval streets, but it is also a city very much steeped in history, dating back to pre-Roman times. Hannibal landed his elephants here!

A car is not essential, but if you would like to see the surrounding countryside, yes it is advisable to hire. There is a local carhire 5 minutes from the apartment if you wish to book for a few days during your stay.

 

This apartment has been furnished and selected for us to enjoy as well as rent, so you will find it fully equipped. Large stone BBQ in the roof terrace to enjoy . There are sea views from the roof terrace. There is a balcony to the front with views of the mountain to the left.

The apartment comprises 2 bedrooms in total; 1 double, 1 twin and 1 cots. . This gives room for up to 4 people. Bed linen and towels are provided for your use.

The apartment has 1 bathrooms and 1 WCs for your party's use. Air-conditioning keeps the apartment cool. Central heating keeps you snug and warm.

The apartment has television dvd. The music system will play cassettes, cds, radio.

There is room for 4 in the living room and 4 in the dining room. To prepare food you will find a cooker, an oven, a microwave, a fridge, a freezer, a kettle, a toaster. You will also find a dish washer, a washing machine, an iron and ironing board. The owner has also provided cutlery, crockery, glassware, cooking utensils.

BERNADETTE says: "We have returned from a wonderful 12 days in La Azohia staying in the spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated Lalibela appartment. Before we started our holiday Margaret was very thoughtful and sent us useful information and answered our questions, so we had an idea about the area. We hired a car at the airport and this we would highly recommend. The appartment is compact, but very well equipted and the outstanding feature has to be the solarium. We ate all our meals there, looking out over the Mediterranean. This was certainly the restaurant with the best view. We barbequed most evenings and bought fresh fish in the pescadaria in Isla Plana and local wine from the nearby Bodega Molina, where we were allowed to sample the wine before buying. We also sunbathed and spent a lot of time relaxing on the solarium. The clean and refreshingly cool pool, in the complex, provided many opportunities for swims. We brought our own snorkel equipment and one highlight of the holiday was our snorkelling. Quite near the beaches we saw the most beautiful fish and with clear waters and sunshine it was amazing. It was like something in a nature programme. The walk along the palm lined promenade to La Azohia harbour and the walk to Isla Plana, became favourites. For a big grocery shop we recommend going to the Upper supermarket in Puerto de Mazarron, there is also a Mercadoma and Lidl there and the Saturday market in Mazarron provided us with cheap, delicious fresh fruit and nuts. We also recommend the Chara restuarant in Isla Plana, where the four course Menu del Dia, which included a bottle of wine and water, was both delicious and excellent value for money. We did do a bit of sightseeing, to the Big Guns in Cabo Tinoso and Bolneuvo Beach, but there is plenty more to do, which we did not have time for. The beaches are never crowded, which is part of the attraction and the nearest is a five minute walk from the appartment. This is real Spain, the Costa that has not been touched with the package holiday. Long may it remain that way. We had a quiet, relaxing holiday and did not want to come home! Thanks to Margaret for all her communication and help and to Pamela, the keyholder, for looking after us and for her advice during our stay. The welcome pack of tea, coffee and especially bottled water was greatly appreciated. We look forward to returning again next year."
