Stunning Architecurally Designed Villa
A lovely architecturally design villa located in the beautiful ligurian mountains within a protected national park close to Italian rivieria coastline.

The villa has stunning panaromic 360 deg views and a large sun terrace

The villa has a wonderful terrace, secluded garden area of 1/3 acre and comprises barbeque/patio seating area. Two seperate outside stone dining tables and a hammock.

The villa is reached via a long drive of approx 300m and has been architecturally designed and has lots of interesting features, including a spiral staircase.

Internally there are three bedrooms (1 double, 1 twin & 1 bunk bed). There is sleeping for 6 (although 2 of those are on bunk beds so really only suitable for children/teenagers). However there is an option for a camp bed if required.

The large bathroom is fully tiled and has a bath/shower, wc, sink and bidet. It also houses the washing machine.

The kitchen diner is fully equiped with gas cooker, fridge freezer, toaster, kettle and a full range of cutlery and utensils.

The lounge has two sofas and one easy chair.

There is also a full size Table Tennis Table (inc. bats & balls) and full size table football in Games Room/Garage

The other games etc we have are board games (Monopoly/Scrabble/Cluedo etc)

Playstation 2 with range of games (about 10) and singstar.

Selection of 20 or so Popular CD's.

Selection of 20 or so Family /Children DVD's (i.e Cat in the Hat, Sound of Music, Nanny McPhee, Scooby Doo, Big Fat Greek Wedding, Monty Python etc)

In addition to the stone dining tables the other garden furniture is a hammock, large paddling pool, sun loungers, large umbrella, terrace table & chairs

Things to do and places to go
The villa perfect for those that like to relax on the terrace in a secluded semi remote and beautiful national park environment

As it is within within a national park there are a large number of beautiful walks and treks locally. Likewise the mountainous roads offer some very serious cycling.

The main tourist areas are;

Chiavari. This is a beautiful classic riviera seaside resort. There is a beach in Chiavari with beach cafes offering snacks, Wine and Beer. There is a large promenade in Chiavari leading up to the Marina with a large number of ice cream parlours, restaurants and bars. There are also souvenir shops and the occasional person on the promenade selling watches and jewellery etc. In the evening the town becomes alive and with people going on their romantic evening walks along the prom. If you can go in the evening from 9.00pm onwards it is well worth it as there are often bands, concerts, and other fun stuff shows which happen on the promenade.

Chiavari Town. In the town there are all the shops, banks and restaurants you could want and that you would expect in a coastal resort. There are often markets on.

Cinque Terre. This is the most beautiful of areas. Cinque Terre meaning Five lands it is accessible by boat, train or car, stopping of at the Five Villages which are all stunning.

Portofino. This is the place to be if you have money to burn as it is the most expensive and exclusive of all of the Italian Riviera, there are many large super-yachts that stop here and numerous international celebrities own luxurious estates and residences in the area.

Bocco Lake. There is a lake which is nice to walk around as it is newly opened with footpaths and benches etc. As you walk down the lane to ‘Il Refuge’ look across the road and you will see a sign directing you. It is only a few minutes walk away.

Villetta Di Legno. You can be very busy here doing nothing ! Sunbathing on the terrace, sleeping in hammock & barbeques etc. There are a range of books, board games, dvd’s and playstation games.

Places to Eat & Drink
Passo Del Bocco. There is one place to eat and drink here. This is the hotel ‘Il rifugio Antonio Devoto’ which has both bar and restaurant. This is located at the end of the lane.

Santa Maria. There are a few places to eat & drink here. If you like fishing there is a fast flowing trout river with fishing available.

Montemoggio. A few Kilometres down the road towards Chiavari on the right hand side, it looks like a small bar but inside there is a small restaurant. This is a must, there is no menu, you just get what mama decides to cook that is fresh that day. The views from the terrace are stunning.

Borzanasca . This large village has numerous bars and restaurants.

Chiavari. Many bars and restaurants, too many to describe.

What to eat & drink
Italy is famous for its food, and its not wrong – it is outstanding.

Liguria is where Pesto originated and is famous for it. It is called ‘Pesto alla Genovese’.

Likewise it is also famous for its Minestrone soup, which is great. (at mamas restaurant in montemoggio she generally offers both). Other local specialities are Porcini Mushrooms, Parma Ham and Parmesan Cheese

Being on the coast there are lots of fish restaurants in Chiavari, which are very good (one in particular by the Marina)

You will generally be offered liqueurs at the end of every meal. Limoncello is the local brew being produced from local lemons. If you go to mamas restaurant definitely ask for some although don’t have more than Two because hers is pretty potent.

On the beach there are an excellent selection of cafes offering a variety of snacks.

Shopping
You can get everything you want in the Ipercoop near Chiavari, which is a large supermarket.

In Santa Maria there is a butchers, grocers, bakers, general store and bank.

Mamas restaurant also sells Bread, Ham, Olives and Milk.

There are lots of shops in Chiaviari selling beautiful clothes. Also the cathedral is well worth a visit it's stunning

Flora and Fauna
Passo del Bocco is located in the protected national park ‘Parco del’Aveto’, it is one of the most beautiful and important areas of the Ligurian Apennines.

The protected territory, over 3,000 hectares, includes high-mountain landscapes, grazing lands and large beech tree woods, meadows where cattle graze, chestnut tree and hazelnut tree woods, vegetable gardens, olive groves and vineyards.

Flora – Villetta de Legno is located in a a pine forest . However, there are also large beech tree and and oak woods, mixed woods with European hornbeam and Flowering Ash, and thin strips along the rivers with willows.

Thanks to the great variety of environments, substrata and microclimates characterizing it, Parco dell’Aveto boasts a great floristic richness, with wild flowers in abundance.

Fauna:
The great variety of environments within the Park has also favored the conservation of a rich and precious fauna.
The most important presence is without a doubt the Wolf, which has recently come back to the Park valleys with some specimens, during a slow but relentless recolonization of the Apennines by the species.

Today the Wolf, across Liguria, has also appeared again in several alpine locations. Given the great charm of this carnivorous animal, observations and tours following its traces are among the most required activities.

Within the national park there are the occasional Wild Boar and Snakes to be seen. You will also hear the wonderful owls in the evening and you may be fortunate enough to see the wonderful eagles floating in the mountain valleys from the terrace or garden

James says: "Beautiful location for those who like mountains, bug hunting with the kids and beaches. Breakfasts on the sunny patio were great. Rustic food at the Refuge was also excellent. On the practicalities, we had problems finding the road out of Lavagna the first time, so make sure you get clear local directions from the owners. The property itself was in the style of a rustic ski lodge. Our kids loved it and are cautious enough for the spiral staircase and external slopes and steps not to be a problem. On the whole a great place for a holiday. Not luxurious, but really different and somewhere our children will remember for years to come."
