Vila Rostrum stands at the end of a cul-de-sac on the western outskirts of Funchal. Its elevated position on a steep hillside grants it spectacular views over the whole of the Funchal amphitheatre, but the setting need be no impediment to guests with walking difficulties, as one of the luxuries provided is a private lift, whisking you up from the street level entrance hall to the main accommodation level some 20feet above.
The main entrance opens on to a large hallway, where there is an oval dining table at your disposal and a piano.
The ground floor of the villa sleeps 2-3 people, and has a spacious living-dining room, an extremely well equipped open plan kitchen, a bedroom with electronically adjustable adjoining twin beds, a small TV room with internet access and a sofa bed for a third person. There is a full bathroom with under-floor heating, a bathtub/shower and a spacious separate shower cubicle. There is an additional cloakroom.
Upstairs are two further twin bedrooms with balconies, one with a television and both with direct dial telephones. There is another full bathroom also with under floor heating, bath/shower and separate shower cubicle shared by the two bedrooms.
 

The panoramic views from the terraces and garden area that adjoin the lounge are truly breathtaking, and the private swimming pool has been designed to appear suspended above the town and the ocean. There is a poolside changing room with shower and toilet and a utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer.
Furniture for dining alfresco is provided on the covered terrace, which also has a terrace heater for the cooler evenings. There are plenty of sun beds and chairs and the spacious barbecue area is covered.
The small indoor pool has an exercise jet stream for those that are feeling energetic.

 

Although Vila Rostrum is set away from the town centre, a hire car is not essential here, as a frequent bus service stops just 300 meters or so from the villa. A couple of local restaurants and simple shops are within walking distance, whilst the nearby Madeira Shopping Centre boasts a huge supermarket for stocking up on groceries and fresh produce, as well as numerous boutiques and a multi-screen cinema. Then again who needs the silver screen, when the night time views from your terrace across the city are so mesmerising?  

Hairdryers are provided and so are toilet rolls, shampoo, soap and shower gel. All bathrooms have under floor heating. There is a Welcome Basket for all arrivals which includes basic provisions for breakfast, fruit, water and wine. A COMPLIMENTARY transfer to and from the airport is provided for those that do not have a hire car. There is a Play station 2 console.

The villa comprises 3 bedrooms in total; 3 twin and 1 cots. The property also has 1 double sofa bed located in the TV Room. This gives room for up to 7 people. Bed linen and towels are provided for your use.

The villa has 2 bathrooms and 5 WCs for your party's use.

The villa has television video, dvd, satellite/cable. The music system will play cassettes, cds, radio. If you need to keep in contact there is a telephone for incoming and outgoing calls. Recreational activities available with the villa include table tennis.

There is room for 7 in the living room and 7 in the dining room. To prepare food you will find a cooker, an oven, a microwave, a fridge, a freezer, a kettle, a toaster. You will also find a dish washer, a washing machine, a clothes drier, an iron and ironing board. The owner has also provided cutlery, crockery, glassware, cooking utensils.

Although Vila Rostrum is on the third floor, it has a lift that will take you from the street level entrance to the main hall.
All interior doors are wide open to allow a wheelchair.
The exterior areas, (pools, gardens and barbecue) are all in the same level, and of very easy access.
 

The villa is in a very quiet area. It has a private south facing swimming pool, a south facing garden, a south facing patio area (with heater), a south facing balcony, sea views, panoramic views, a barbeque. If you are driving there is private parking and a garage with the outside areas of the house having external lighting.

Linda says: "Our initial reaction was that the villa took our breath away. It was absolutely fabulous in every way. The accomodation was spacious light and airy, pool great and as for the views especially at night from the terrace all you can say is WOW!!! The undercover area and indoor pool would be useful if the weather is not good but we had a week of glorious sunshine in March so did not need to worry about that We will definitely be back!!!"
