Classified as "Património Cultural Edificado" (Cultural Heritage Building), this house was built in 1780 and has remained in the same family ever since. Property is located in idyllic spot overlooking a valley and with distant view of the ocean, only 500 m from the local saltwater swimming pools, 2.5 km from the centre of the small village of São Jorge and 4 km from Santana.

The house is an almost perfect square, measuring 14,75 m x 14,75 m (46 ft x 46 ft), with a longer section where once was a kitchen on the top floor, with the ovens which are kept intact as of today, now a sleeping room and a small storage on the ground floor where once food was stored, and today is the entrance hall.

With the adaptation works done in 2004, the house has now 7 big sleeping rooms (1 single and 1 twin in ground floor, and 2 doubles, 2 twins and 1 triple in the first floor), all equipped with private full bathroom. On the top floor there is also a living room and a small TV/reading room. On the ground floor there is a home library in centenary wood, on the right of the houses main entrance, where you can place telephone calls, send or receive fax or connect to the internet ADSL, gather with your family and friends, or even read a newspaper, a magazine or a book, in an extraordinary calm and relaxed environment. Also on the ground floor one can find an ample living room, equipped with a TV, where several groups of people can gather and talk, and right next to it a dining room, as well as a fully equipped kitchen.

It is always a great surprise for all those who visit the mouth of the São Jorge River for the first time when they find the small beach and a bathing complex situated at the river mouth, providing magnificent views on the surrounding landscapes.

Although there is sea access, we do not advise you to swim here, especially if the sea is rough. The north coast is especially uninviting because of its often very agitated sea, which makes it unpopular except with surfers. Because of the sometimes-rough conditions of the sea, a new bathing complex with three swimming pools and a restaurant was built in this area.

During the nights of the summer months, the São Jorge beach area gets quite animated, as the ‘Calhau’ and ‘Neptuno’ bars provide non-stop entertainment until late in the morning.
 

 

The country house comprises 7 bedrooms in total; 2 double, 4 twin, 1 single, 7 of the bedrooms with en-suite facilities. The property also has 1 single sofa bed located in the 1 extra bed in a twin room. This gives room for up to 14 people. Bed linen and towels are provided for your use.

The country house has satellite/cable. If you need to keep in contact there is a telephone for incoming and outgoing calls and a fax machine.

There is room for 14 in the living room and 14 in the dining room. The open fire can be used to create a comfortable atmosphere. To prepare food you will find a cooker, an oven, a microwave, a fridge, a freezer, a kettle, a toaster. You will also find a dish washer, a washing machine, an iron and ironing board. The owner has also provided cutlery, crockery, glassware, cooking utensils.
