In the province of Murcia you will find the Mar Menor, a coastal area boasting one of the most moderate climates in Spain. The area has more days sunshine than any other mainland region and the water temperatures are higher than average and hence is known as the Costa Calida – the Warm Coast.

This section of coastline includes the Mar Menor which is one of Europe’s largest salt water lagoons and abounds with wildlife, particularly at the Northern end which during the autumn migration season becomes home to thousands of flamingos.

The weather around the Mar Menor is mild, due to the hills and high mountains sheltering the area, rainfall is limited and as a result the region enjoys sunshine for in excess of 320 days per year which makes it ideal for family holidays. The sun is hottest during the summer, with temperatures rarely falling below 30°C and the typically mild winters boast average temperatures of around 17°C.
