We fell in love with this property at first sight. Tucked away on the slopes of an alpine meadow overlooking the mountains and the beautiful village of Livek, the chalet is an idyllic, relaxing hideaway. Close to the historic town of Kobarid and just 2km from the Italian border, its the perfect place to get away from it all, or to go out and explore.

We have done our best to make the Retreat as comfortable as possible while still retaining that traditional feel. A king size double bed, with pine walls and shutters upstairs, modern kitchen, comfy sofa and Slovenian woodburning stove downstairs. We also include a welcome pack of provisions that will get you started as well as shower creams and all cleaning materials.

Wake up every morning in your own little retreat, step out onto the balcony and soak up the views. Right outside your front door is some of the best and most picturesque hillwalking in the Julian Alps, renowned as much for the low number of visitors as much as their beauty.

The Soča valley is famous throughout Slovenia for offering the country's most jaw dropping scenery and truly picture-postcard views. It is also renowned in kayaking circles for offering some of the best white water sports in Europe. Nearby Žaga & Bovec (20 minutes) have become thriving outdoor activities centres with almost every imaginable sport available. In summer taking advantage of the beautiful Soča river and in Winter the ski resort of Kanin.

In the other direction you can drive or cycle the Fifty Bend Road to Kranjska Gora or journey to the village of Trenta to see the source of the Soča river.

The area is steeped in history, many of the First World War trench lines ran through the mountains nearby and there is a museum in Kobarid (15 minutes) offering a touching local insight into the period.

An excellent day trip is to travel south to see Slovenias Karst region with its massive underground caves, vineyards and the world famous Lipizaner stud farm - an absolute must for any equestrian enthusiast and a wonderful day out even if you are not.

Or, for something very different, go the other way and visit the stunning towns of Udine & Cividale in Italy. They are within 30min drive from the chalet and give a whole different experience of culture, shops and food.

The unforgettable city of Venice is also less than 2 hours drive away, offering yet another contrasting day out to enjoy.
 

Livek's alpine location means that a car is a must, but getting there from the airport is surprisingly straightforward. Ryanair fly to Trieste which is an easy 65km drive away. If you want to see some of Slovenia's gorgeous capital first, Easyjet flies to Ljubljana's Brnik daily and the motorway round the mountains means this is only a slightly longer journey. All major car rental firms are at the airport.
HOT TIP: Venice Marco Polo airport is also just 2 hours drive - Venice makes a terrific two-center holiday with this chalet!
 

This is a quiet retreat - no radio, no television, just a few books and lots of peace and quiet! There is, however, an iPod dock - good music we need!

The cottage comprises 2 bedrooms in total; 1 double, 1 twin. . This gives room for up to 4 people. Bed linen and towels are provided for your use.
