Røttingsnesskolen is a holiday house of good standard located on a farm with a fantastic view of the mountains, sea and surrounding landscape. Boat with motor included. Ideal area for hiking, sea fishing, inland fishing, kayaking, riding and culture activities. A good starting place for drives to the many sights of interest in Nordmøre and in Romsdal.
ACCOMODATION: Newly renovated house (Feb.07) with two storeys. Well equipped and high standard, with a nice view of the fjord, moutains and cultural landscape.
FISHING
In Trangfjorden, Breifjorden, Stangvikfjorden and Ålvundfjorden you can fish for many species: in shallow waters you find flounder, cod, haddock, coalfish etc, while on the deep waters ling, tusk and redfish can be caught. If you are lucky you can catch halibut too. The pollack is found in large numbers in March/April, salmon and sea trout can be cought on trolling line in the summer and fall and the mackerel comes in the late summer and fall. Within 30 minutes you can reach nearly all the good fishing spots, popular places are around Kvitholmen islet, on Litlegrunnen shoal near Nesøya island and Ørsvikgrunnen shoal in Ålvundfjorden fjord. Depending on what species you want you can find good spots anywhere. You will get more information about fishing spots on arrival and some good spots are marked on the sea map.
Fishing in fresh water, lakes and rivers:
Hanemsvatnet, 5 km – the nearest lake for brown trout and red char. You can also fish for salmon and sea trout here. Road all the way to the lake. Fishing permit available at Statoil. There are also salmon and sea trout in Storelva, a small river which runs from the lake down to the sea. In the mountains, about a 2 hours hike above the house, lies Spennvatnet where you can fish for brown trout. You can also fish for brown trout in these lakes: Hafstadvatnet, Myravatnet and Håkkåsvatnet. All of these can be reached by car. One permit covers all the lakes in Meisingset. Price: NOK 100,- for 1 year.
Fishing permits are available for fishing salmon and sea trout in the well-known rivers, Driva (43 km) in Sunndal and Surna (52 km) in Surnadal. Driva is one of Norway’s best sea trout rivers.
Price per day: NOK 200 – 250,- depending on the length of the fishing pool.
Season from June 1 to August 31.
Søya, a smaller river with good fishing in periods, is 27 km from the house. A day permit for Søya costs NOK 100,-.
BOAT: Included with the house is a Øien 530 boat, 17,5
feet / 40 HP 4 stroke motor with el.starter.
Activities
Kayaking in Nordmøre
In Nordmøre the steep mountains of Vestlandet meet the gentle fjords of Trøndelag giving the county a varied landscape. Here you’ll find many good landing places in beautiful hiking terrain. It is a short distance from the open sea to the more sheltered fjords so you are sure of a fantastic trip regardless of weather conditions. Paddling on the fjord can easily be combined with a hiking trip. Vinjefjorden, Valsøyfjorden and Årasvikfjorden are peaceful paddling fjords with good landing places. A trip out Aursundet is also recommended. Tustna gives possibilities for paddling both on the sea and in more sheltered areas. Farther inland lie Trongfjorden, Ålvundfjorden, Meisingsetvågen with fantastic scenery. This is also true of the outer side of Tingvollfjorden where the fjord meets the sea. Good landing places everywhere. You will receive thorough instructions and proper equipment when you rent a kayak if you want to go exploring on your own. Courses are also available.
Other activities
An abundance of berries and mushrooms in season near the house. Best season for mushrooms is from August to October. Varies with weather and climatic conditions.
Hiking in the woods and mountains – trips can start from the house. Hiking in Innerdalen with a marked net of trails -Trollheimen. Start after a drive of 32 km.
Hiking in the Jenstad area with Åmotan and in Sunndal"s mountains. Can be reached by car – 75 km.
Horseback riding: - in Vågbø, 14 km. Both tours and track riding.
Alpine Skiing: in Ålvundeid, 30 km
Cross-country Skiing: prepared trails in Meisingset, 7 km. from the house. From March until after Easter.
Kayaking: Kayaks can be delivered to the house – single and double.
Diving: Gear for rent at Strømsholmen Sjøsportsenter in Vevang. Airtank refill. Your host can take you out to interesting diving spots in Hustadvika and other areas. 84 km.
Inland fishing: Nearest lake 5 km from the house.

Tingvoll Museum in Tingvoll, 11km. A living museum where you are invited to take part in history. Many activities during summer – for example, how to light a fire without matches.
Tingvoll Church, an old stone church built in 1150 to 1200. Tingvoll, 11 km.
Rock paintings: The largest rock painting collection in Scandinavia from the early Stone Age. The paintings show moose, reindeer and salmon. 20 km.
Åmotan – a phenomenon of nature with steep cliffs, moraines and terraces formed during the last ice-age. A fan-shaped river-system where seven rivers meet, three of which magnificent waterfalls down Åmotan. 67km. Good hiking area.
Mardalsfossen, 100 km by car from Sunndal over Aursjøvegen and down to Eikesdal. Then a 45 min hike to the waterfall. Mardalsfossen is one of the more well known waterfalls in Norway. There are two major falls and some smaller cascades at the base. The longest single drop is 297 meters. The total drop is 655 meters.
Kristiansund – "The City by the Sea" is renowned for its restaurants, night life and its friendly maritime atmosphere. A harbour boat shuttles between the city’s four islands. Kristiansund was once known as the "Clipfish City" but is now Mid-Norway’s petroleum capital. Boat trips daily from Kristiansund to the fishing station Grip from May to September. (70 km)
Atlanterhavsbadet : a new aquapark in Kristiansund– opened in 2005.
Atlantic Highway – where sea meets land This unique highway takes you to where the sea meets the land. It is one of Norway’s most popular tourist attractions and in 2005 was proclaimed a National Tourist Road. Take a round trip by car from Meisingset to Kristiansund – take the ferry to Averøya, drive over Averøy and then take the Atlantic Highway to Vevang through Eide and Gjemnes then back to Meisingset over Gjemnessundet bridge.
Sunndal, with many possibilities. Hike in Innerdalen Landscape Reserve which is Norway’s most beautiful valley or visit Åmotan, a canyon where many waterfalls meet in an inferno of water. Aursjøveien starts in Sunndalsøra , goes through Litjdalen with steep mountains, up the high mountains and down again to Eikesdal. From Eikesdal it is 30 min by foot in to Europe’s highest waterfall, Mardalsfossen. From Eikesdal to Eidsvågen and towards Sunndalsøra or out towards Molde and back to Meisingset.
Coastal Express Boat to Trondheim: 3 times daily from Kristiansund. A fantastic trip along the coast and a few hours to explore Trondheim.
Veidholmen, an active fishing station off Smøla. To get there, drive to Kristiansund, take the ferry to Tustna, drive across Tustna, take the ferry to Edøy and then drive over Edøy and Smøla and follow the road over islands and reefs to Veidholmen. A fantastically beautiful drive through a diversified landscape. Café Havkroa on Veidholmen is famous for its good food.
The Temple of Trolls, a system of limestone caves located between Trolltind and Hælen in Eide municipality. Parking area and marked path to the grotto, 485 meters above the sea. Approx. 1 to 1 ½ hrs’ hike. 89 km from Meisingset. Note: Bring a torch.
Trollstigen, probably Norway’s most popular tourist attraction. From Røttingsnes to the top of Trollstigen it is 170 km. Just 62 km farther on you’ll come to Geiranger. A popular day trip through a magnificent landscape with mountains up to 2000 meters high, waterfalls, glaciers and fjords.
