Kaya Cottages
The Kaya Cottages are two unique, authentic Turkish farm cottages in the idyllic rural village of Kayakoy.
The Smokehouse and The Stables have been carefully restored and have received an award from the Turkish Ministry of Culture for Sympathetic Restoration of Turkish Heritage.
The beautifully tiled raised pool area overlooks the picturesque Kaya Valley and surrounding mountains and forest . Each cottage has a private seating area and the property is surrounded by gardens and a rustic stone wall.
Kaya is one of the rare places where you will truly find the unspoilt side of Turkey and experience real Turkish culture and Village life. It is the perfect place to relax or to explore.
Visit the ruins of a Greek town dating back to Lycian and Roman times, find a hidden Monastery overlooking the Mediterranean, sample Turkish Wine, Cuisine and Hospitality at nearby family owned restaurants or swim and chat with Turkish locals at Gemiler Beach.
Kaya Village remains unspoilt by the mass tourism yet is easily accessible from Dalaman Airport (1hr transfer) and Fethiye Town (10km)
Kaya Village is located around the historic ruins of Levissi. Nearly 2000 ruins lie nestled against the hillside, forming an open-air museum often reffered to as the Ghost Town. Levissi was abandoned following a population exchange between Greece and Turkey in the early 1920s. Exploring the site via worn pathways weaving between houses and churches is a wonderful experience.
The ruins of Levissi were the inspiration for the Louis De Bernieres novel Birds Without Wings.
Birds Without Wings begins in the early 1900s in an idyllic town in South West Anatolia during the declining years of the Ottoman Empire. It retells the tale of one small community in which Christian and Muslim lives and traditions have co-existed peacefully over the centuries and in which friendship, even love, can transcend religious differences.
The Stables Cottage
The Stables is a lovely one bedroom stone cottage with tiled floors throughout, whitewashed walls and wooden beamed ceilings. This Cottage is where the owner always stays and she loves its charm and character and strongly recommends it for couples to stay.
There is a large terrace area at the front of the Cottage with gardens surrounding and large umbrella for shade as well as seating for dining and relaxing. A wall provides privacy but doesn't affect the stunning views of opposite mountains.
As you enter the Stables you have a small but fully equipped galley style kitchen. To the left is an open plan cosy sitting room with sdining table, fan, single divan bed that doubles as sofa and a decorative fireplace similar to those still used for cooking in the villages houses. CD player and a large collection of books are for guests use.
The double bedroom has built in wooden cupboard and fireplace. It is Air-conditioned for comfort during the summer months.
The bathroom is finished with pretty blue and white tiles and has shower, basin and toilet.
The Stables Cottage sleeps up to 3 people.

Fethiye cottage to rent reviews
Maggie and Terry says: "We had a fantastic time at The Stables Cottage. Everything was there that we needed and it felt very cosy and comfortable. We absolutely loved the patio/terrace area in front of the cottage, with the breathtaking views of the mountains. The weather was also great, around 26 degrees celcius each day and that ofcourse made our holiday even better. We thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful country life. Away from the hustle and bustle of the main touristy areas, although the lovely town of Fethiye with its great Tuesday market was not too far away. The ruins of Levissi or The Gost Town, is absolutley a must to see and the Afe Kule Monastery is well worth a visit too. Clare, the owner of the Cottages, came to see us every morning and pointed us in the right direction of things to do. We also enjoyed eating out at the local restaurants. Especially the Kinali restaurant owned by Erkin and Fatma. We shall definitely come and stay at The Stables again as we really enjoyed the area and the hospitality of the local people. Thanks Clare, for the lifts and the friendship!"
