The sunny roof terrace has stunning views south, east and west over the Rio Santo gorge. The terrace is fully equipped with sun recliners, table and chairs and BBQ. The Living Room and Master bedroom also have windows which look out onto the gorge. On the evening one can sit upon the terrace and watch the eagles soaring as the sun sets. The Moors called this place the Valley of Joy. 

There are no cars in the old Barrio Bajo of Albunuelas, although donkeys pass the ground floor windows of the house each day on their way to work in the orange and olive groves. Freshly baked bread and fish from the coast can be bought each day from hawkers in the square below the church. There are bars restaurants and village shops within walking distance and the village square has a weekly market on Thursdays.  

There are several nice swimming pool/restaurants in nearby villages. Guided walks are available from local English residents which start from the village and can take in items of historical interest (Moorish, Roman, Iberian) as well as the flora and fauna of the valley. Ideal for relaxation and perfect for walkers or bird watchers. The epic GR7 walk from Algeciras to Istanbul passes the door and one of the GR7 markers can be seen upon the wall. The lush valley just beyond the house is rich with oranges, almonds, grapes, figs, pomegranates, persimmons, and prickly pears. In the spring the air is perfumed with orange and almond blossom. The higher slopes of the gorge abound with olives and the scent of wild herbs 

Casa de la Lagartija (House of the Gecko) is a restored village house of great character situated in the spectacularly situated Moorish Village of Albunuelas - which overlooks the Rio Santo gorge and is reputed to be the most beautiful village in the Lecrin Valley. The house is an upside-down house on three floors with the Master Bedroom, Living Room and Roof Terraces all having wonderful views over the orange orchards and the gorge. The house has retained its Chestnut beams, colourful local tiles and copper sinks. The house also has its own orange orchard which can be used by tenants for picnics or splashing about in the paddling pool. In the right season the oranges (as many as you can eat) are free! La Lagartija is situated just around the corner from Casa de la Puerta Grande (see separate Villarenters entry under Lecrin Valley) and the two properties can also be rented out together to larger parties if desired.

The village house comprises 2 bedrooms in total; 1 double, 1 twin and 1 cots, 2 of the bedrooms with en-suite facilities. . This gives room for up to 5 people. Bed linen and towels are provided for your use.

The owner has also provided cutlery, crockery, glassware, cooking utensils.

Iver says: "The house is brand new, the interior has been furnished with an artistic eye for the small details that gives you the feeling of a unique holiday. If you need help or information the neighbours and other people in the village are more than willing to help you out. Though the steets are steep, it is not too far to walk from the parking. Lots of other villages near by and plenty of opportunities for action or tranquility for kids and grownups. The surroundings are excellent for nature lovers as there are lots of birds, all kinds of trees, flowers and plants to enjoy.We enjoyed every minute of our 10 days. "
