Col di Lavacchio is a 22 acre farm in northern Tuscany nestling on a ridge below the dramatic peak of Pania del Croce. Whether you want to hang glide from a crag or attend the Puccini festival, to amble amongst the olives or spot wild boar in the chestnut forest, at Lavacchio we can tailor make your holiday to fit your requirements.
The small town of Barga is a draw for artists and photographers whilst Castelnuovo is the hub of activity for the Garfagnana region with its extensive national park. This is an area rooted in tradition and unspoilt by mass tourism; where Italians come to sample the real Tuscany. 

The old farmhouse at Lavacchio was completely renovated in 2004 and whilst the traditional features, such as the chestnut beams, were retained the house was fitted with smart modern appliances to make your stay a comfortable one. There are five bedrooms (double or twin) and three bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and a comfortable sitting room with an open fire. Two terraces for al fresco eating and a working pizza oven mean that time spent indoors is kept to a minimum.
Facilities include: dishwasher, microwave oven, washing machine, 5 ring gas hob and oven with electric grill, 2 fridges, CD player, DVD/Video and TV, central heating. All linen is included.
The ground floor apartment 100m away has 2 large double/twin rooms, a sitting room with sofa-bed and a small but well equipped kitchen. The bathroom has a huge wet area shower. The loggia outside, with the spa pool provides welcome shade and a romantic dinner setting.
 

A car is essential at Lavacchio to allow you to shop locally in a range of supermarkets and village markets and to explore hill top towns and Tuscany's historic sites. There is a huge number of restaurants with in 15 mins drive or alternatively let us take the strain out of holiday cooking. A selection of produce is available ranging from eggs to fresh fruit and vegetables in season. There are masses of herbs all over the property.
Meals can be served by prior arrangement on the terrace: these can range from a 4 course dinner to a pizza evening or barbeque.
Cookery courses are also available.
 

There is a large terrace for dining, another for sunbathing, a spa pool (for 5 people) set in a beautiful loggia, a full size table tennis table and an area for boules. A number of hammocks are slung in shady spots as well as the wooden pool furniture. There is a small child’s swing and lots of room to kick a ball or fly a kite. Board games and cards are provided in the accommodation.

The farm house comprises 7 bedrooms in total; 3 double, 4 twin and 1 cots. The property also has 1 double sofa bed located in the apartment sitting room. This gives room for up to 14 people. Bed linen and towels are provided for your use.

The farm house has 4 bathrooms and 4 WCs for your party's use. Central heating keeps you snug and warm.

The farm house has dvd. The music system will play cassettes, cds, radio. Recreational activities available with the farm house include table tennis.

There is room for 10 in the living room and 15 in the dining room. The open fire can be used to create a comfortable atmosphere. To prepare food you will find a cooker, an oven, a microwave, a fridge, a freezer, a kettle, a toaster. You will also find a dish washer, a washing machine, an iron and ironing board. The owner has also provided cutlery, crockery, glassware, cooking utensils.

The farm house is in a very quiet area. It has a private south facing swimming pool, a south facing garden, a summer house, a south facing patio area, a south facing balcony, panoramic views, interesting views, a barbeque. If you are driving there is private parking with the outside areas of the house having external lighting.

The farm house is right beside swimming.

Close to the farm house you will find fishing, climbing, walking, cycling, mountain biking, horse riding, tennis, a theatre/cinema, shopping areas, a restaurant, a food shop.

Within easy reach of the farm house you will find skiing/snowboarding, golf, historic sites, a museum.

Howard says: "Property is excellent and in a very peaceful spot with superb views to Serchio valley and the surrounding mountains. High standard of refurbishment in the property itself which is accompanied by a large swimming pool (certainly much larger than current photos on this site would suggest). Access to the house is via a narow road which, if you don't want to negotiate with your hire car, can be driven along using the supplied Ford Fiesta (aka the Lavacchio banger!). Nearest restaurant is 15 minutes walk away and many more within a 15 minute drive; a 5 minute drive takes you to Gallicano for local shops and supermarkets as well as a train station to access Lucca (and beyond). The property also has its own pizza oven and the very friendly owners offer a pizza evening if you're that way inclined. Summary - if you want peace and quite and total relaxation while surrounded by superb countryside, good food, wonderful hill walks then you cannot go wrong selecting this property."
