A stones throw from shops including the boulangerie, grocer, butcher, charcuterie, creperie, lute and harp maker, gift shops, galleries, bistros, restaurants, hotels, and bars.
We would recommend a tour of the Abbey . It has a fascinating history –
It also has a marvellous cultural centre hosting many musical and artistic events, a bookshop, beautiful gardens, Hotel and Restaurant. If you take a walk up the hill you will catch a breathtaking view of the Abbey.
In the village, La Croix Blanche has an excellent bistro, creperie and restaurant .
La Licorne,a michelin starred restaurant , is a foodies heaven and just round the corner
Dining out in this area is reasonably priced and the food is generally of very good quality. Local dishes include delicious mushrooms and freshwater fish. Vineyards and wine tasting is of course everywhere and there is excellent local wine.
At the bottom of the road are the charming medieval villages of Candes St Martin and Montsoreau. We were really excited to discover them.
The people are exceptionally friendly in this part of France and the pace is slow.
There are street food markets, flea markets, festivals and local events.
Cycling is also popular with some dedicated cycle paths and there are outdoor pools in the area.

 

Fontevraud, situated between Chinon and Saumur is an excellent location for visiting the chateaux, towns and vineyards of the Loire Valley.Further afield:
Saumur is an elegant town described by the French tourist board as one of the top 6 towns to visit in France. It is the home of the French military riding school “Le Cadre Noir” and has an imposing fairytale castle.Buses run from Fontevraud to Saumur 4 times a day during school term time.
The large open air swimming pool is popular with teenagers and it has a theatre, cinema, shops and restaurants. There are good family campsites in the area.
Chinon is a beautiful medieval town and has a castle which is a great place for children to explore,it commands breathtaking views.

 

The property provides comfortable accommodation for 2-4 people and includes 1 double bedroom, a large sitting room with double futon, farmhouse kitchen, bathroom and enclosed private courtyard with barbeque and garden furniture.Pas de Mimi is quite unique. It is in the centre of the village yet completely secluded as it is built around a private courtyard. Built in the local Tuffeau limestone it has been restored and renovated to provide a comfortable home yet it retains its original character. It feels wonderfully romantic.
The living room is very roomy with large windows and plenty of light. You will be able to smell the bread from the boulangerie in the morning.

 

Please note that there is one double bedroom and a double futon in the living room. The courtyard is completely enclosed so there is privacy yet shops hotels etc are on the doorstep The Property is tucked away in the centre of the town, metres from the famous Abbey

John says: "The property is an ideal base for exploring the Loire valley round Saumur. The property with its enclosed courtyard is very private and an idela location for eating/bbq. The cottage is well appointed and has a well equiped kitchen. The village itself is great as well with plenty of places to eat and a bike hire shop and even an english tea room (across the road). The village also has wine cave at the bottom of the hill although be prepared to only do wine tasting/describing in french here (phew hard work and builds a thirst). Saumur is only a short drive away and is a great town with plenty places to eat and lots of shops and wine places. Also the home of the cadre noir which is well worth a visit. All in all a great place to stay and a great property to stay in full marks."
