Istanbul apartment rental details
Beautiful 3 Bed Luxury Apartment in Historical Timber Mansion, Heybeliada,
Take a step back in time and visit the Princes Islands where motorized transport is forbidden. This quiet sea & mountain retreat in the Marmara Sea offers a complete contrast in surroundings and atmosphere from the pulsating energy of Istanbul, which is just a stone’s throw away.
Inexpensive and regular ferry crossings make Island hopping and day tripping a fantastic way to visit Istanbul whilst relaxing in a beautiful island location.
The Princes Islands are an archipelago consisting of nine islands in the Marmara Sea, just a few miles away from Istanbul. Since driving is forbidden on the islands the only way around is by foot, bicycle or horse drawn carriage, which offers the visitor a quiet natural environment.
The entire house was interior designed and decorated by fashion designer Hinks Taylor, who kept all of the original detail of the house whilst introducing contemporary elements of design and decor to make the apartments both stunningly beautiful and comfortable at the same time. The apartments are centrally located and are a 10-minute walk in varying directions to the Beach Clubs, Monastery, Village, the Port and Promenade lined with cafes and fish restaurants.
Heybeliada
Heybeliada is the 2nd largest (2.5km across) of the 4 populated Princes Islands in the Marmara Sea just 20KM from Istanbul. The fast boat takes just 50minutes to Kabatas sea port (European side) or 30mins to Bostanci sea port (Asian side).
Fantastic Ottoman Timber Mansions built at around the end of the 18th century decorate the Islands. These apartments are in one of the biggest and most spectacular mansions on the main street of Heybeliada, which is known as Street of the Mansions. Nearby there are small-pebbled coves (beaches), which you can walk down to, or three fantastic Beach Clubs with restaurants, bars, cafes, Olympic size seawater swimming pool, a marina for yachts and water amusements for children.
First Floor (Apartment 3) Sleeps 6.
There are two large main double bedrooms (one with the covered balcony) and a third smaller room with a Queen size bed. The Apartment is 90m2 and the beautifully ornate ceilings are around 4.5m high.
Wonderful views from the covered terrace and the master Bedroom. The lounge is drenched in sunlight and looks over the gardens and up the mountain, which is dotted with similar white timber mansions.
This apartment sleeps 6 people with its three bedrooms and spacious layout. It also benefits from the grassy part of the private garden with splendid flower beds, so you can read, bbq, relax on sun loungers etc.
The house is situated opposite the 11th Century Orthodox Monastery, which can be seen on top of the hill from the Penthouse balcony. There are four apartments Ground Floor, Garden Flat, First Floor & Penthouse, which can be rented individually or together - depending on availability. There is a wonderful south facing 140m2 garden at the back of the house, which is divided into three parts between the First Floor, Garden Flat & Ground Floor. Each apartment has its own well-equipped kitchen, luxurious bathroom, rain showers, stylish furnishings and large double beds.
There are 3 FAntastic Beach Clubs:
Sport Club-This is a very exclusive Private Club, which was built by the Islanders and is now a Co-Operative. It is only possible to arrange entrance by special invitation. This can be arranged for Karamanyan guests. The price at the weekend is 45YTL per person and on weekdays 25YTL PP.
Green Beach Club-This is a great club and just next door from the Sport Club. It is open to anyone so it can get busy on weekends. There is a special discount rate for Karamanyan guests, 10YTL Per Person and kids go Free.
Ada Beach Club-This Gorgeous Club is brand new this year. The owner is a young designer from Istanbul so the styling and setting of this club should appeal to the hip arts sector from Beyoglu. It’s a 20-minute walk from the mansion. Price 15YTL per person. Kids under 12 go Free.
Boat & Bike hire
The traditional fishing boat can take 6/8 people, has an outboard motor and is 60E per day for the Karamanyan guests. It takes about 25 minutes to get around the island. This is a fantastic way to see all the Islands and get to the isolated beaches on the uninhabited Islands. The boat is shared between all the guests so it is wise to pre-book.
Bikes are around 10 YTL per day. There are 4 bike hire shops in the village and cycling around the islands is very popular. Not least because there is no traffic so it’s very safe. There are dirt tracks through the forest as well as roads around the Island.
Laundry
Luxurious bed linen and fresh towels are provided for all the apartments as well as a weekly cleaning service. Everything is brand new this year. All the bedrooms have ceiling fans (except for the ground floor apartment).
Mamara sea region
Istanbul is a busy shipping port and on the weekends is also full of small private sailing boats. Its an awesome scene, to see the huge Tankers drifting along the Bosphorus and then everything else zig zags across the Marmara sea and Golden Horn with chaotic precision and the Giant Mosques of Sultanhamet provide an unforgettable skyline. It is a unique experience! The sea is clean and rich with sea life. You can often see pods of dolphins from the ferry as you travel between the Islands and the Mainland.
Its much quieter and relaxed around the Islands, The ferries dock at the port, which is on the other side from the Beach Clubs. There is a small marina for the yachts next to Sport Beach Club but its never busy and only adds to the beautiful setting.
Istanbul
Connecting Aisa with Europe, Istanbuls important sites include Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, the Toplaki Palace, the Grand Bazaar, Galata Tower and many more. Istanbul itself is built across 7 mountains on two continents and is the only city in the world, which has a sea running through the middle of it! Its an enormous sprawling city saturated in history with a stunning and unmistakable skyline of giant mosques as well as the rooftop bars and restaurants of Taksim, Beyoglu and Tunel, which are packed with good-natured drinkers and diners every night! This is a fantastic city with a dramatic clash of cultures and history prevalent at every corner. Take a boat trip up the Bosphorus, visit the mosques of Sultanhamet and take time to visit Ortakoy and Bebek, which are lovely neighborhoods along the Bosphorus.
For a more clandestine experience, lose yourself in the labyrinthine streets of the Grand Bazaar or go underground at Yerebatan Sarayi: a beautifully preserved Byzantine cistern which was used as a location in the 007 film ‘From Russia With Love’.
Summary
Istanbul is a vast city, which boasts many magnificent sights and treasures, however, The Princes Islands are still a little known tourist attraction even to the Turks living in Istanbul. The main reason for this being that the islands were initially inhabited by a wave of Greek and Armenian Bankers who built holiday mansions there at around the turn of the 19th Century. This made for a truly odd paradox, these tiny little Islands have very little Islamic influence and so it’s quite out of place in Turkey and so close to Istanbul. It also means that to this day many Turks still haven’t embraced these Islands because of their history and this is what makes them such a remarkable secret and unique gem in the crown of Istanbuls tourist destinations.
I have been lucky enough to travel the world, but when I got here, by chance I might add, I stopped and said, I want to buy a Mansion! In fact now that I remember, It wasnt the Turkish friends that I was working with at the time that told me about The Princes Islands, It was an Arab traveler that I had met out there from Dubai, he said ‘you have a week here, go to the Islands’…Its another world.
