The Villa & Surrounding Area
Turkey is a country of enormous & varied beauty, with sparkling seas lapping golden shores, pine clad hills, snowy mountains & fertile green valleys. It is a country rich in history and culture, where East meets West and where you can experience the legendary warmth of the Turkish people.

Opal Villa is situated in South West Turkey on the Gulf of Fethiye ( Fethiye Korfezi). This area is known as Lycia or more recently, the "Turquoise" coast – the reason for which will be obvious when you see the beautiful sea and beaches.

The villa has 5 bedrooms, is detached, air conditioned and has its own large private swimming pool. It is set in a stunning elevated location in its own 850 square metre plot with a backdrop of magnificent mount Babadag. It can accommodate up to 12 guests. The villa is on three floors and can either be used as one large villa or divided into a 3 bedroom villa and a light and airy 2 bedroom self contained apartment. The two being linked by a marble staircase leading to a lockable internal door. The apartment also has its own external door leading to the poolside. Both the 3 bedroom villa and the apartment can accommodate up to 6 people each.

The villa enjoys a particularly good aspect which is important in this undulating area to ensure that you get sun during the whole of the day on the pool and surrounding area and can enjoy a cocktail watching the sun set over the coast.

The villa is also very child friendly. There is a wrought iron gate leading from the villa patio to the poolside ( very necessary with non-swimming children) additionally there is a small childrens paddling pool (which is also great for adults who like to stretch out in the pool with book on a hot day !)

The location is perfect for a relaxing break or if you prefer is very well situated to take advantage of the many local activities. Beautiful beaches, ancient monuments, picturesque harbours, nature trails & wonderful restaurants are all on the doorstep. Additionally if you love sailing, as we do, you could easily combine a week at Opal Villa with either a weeks bare boat, flotilla or gulet sailing from Gocek or Fethiye .

Flights are available throughout the year via Istanbul. Direct, low cost, flights from Gatwick or Manchester (and possibly others !) to Dalaman are available from Easter through to the end of October. The flight time for direct flights is around 3 ½ hours and there is a 50 minute transfer time from the airport to Ovacik.

Ovacik Village & Local Activities
Ovacik is a semi-rural village with fantastic views and is very well placed for local transport to the beach at OluDeniz( aprox 3Km) , or the resorts of Hisaronu or Fethiye. There are a number small bars and restaurants within 500 metres of the villa.

The villa gives access to an enormous range of activities including:

Waterskiing, parasailing & ringo riding on Olu Deniz beach
Boat trips on the wonderful Gulf of Fethiye with it’s twelve islands
Jeep Safari Over mountains, see historic sites & beautiful beaches
Turtle Beach Dalyan, loggerhead turtle nesting area
Pamukkale Cotton castle, formed over thousands of years by thermal spring waters forming cascades of water down the mountainside
Ephesus One of the worlds seven wonders. A major centre of early Christianity
Truck Safari See the natural mountain habitat
Kaya Village Historic site of Greek ruins. A lovely walk from Hisaronu centre.
Paragliding The region is unique (and world renowned)in offering spectacular paragliding from stunning Babadag mountain down onto the beach at Olu Deniz. Beginners can go tandem with professional pilots.
Walking many trails are available through the beautiful mountain scenery

All guests at Opal Villa get temporary membership of the Nicholas park leisure complex which is a 5 minute drive from the villa. The complex has, a restaurant, large outdoor pool with slides, various sports activities and other special events which may vary throughout the season. Guests also get free access to the private beach at the Blue Lagoon, plus use of the free bus service from Ovacik to the Blue Lagoon.

Sailing & Boating plus Hints & Tips
A striking contrast to the regions mountainous interior is the Gulf of Fethiye where, with a short boat journey, you will reach the beautiful and scarcely inhabited "Twelve Islands."

Gocek: Sometimes termed, "Turkeys Salcombe," has long since been a favourite with Turkeys affluent sailing fraternity. It is a small and attractive port, offering a sophisticated range of facilities without the excess of mass tourism. It is set in a backdrop of beautiful pine clad mountains and is the home base for several flotilla and charter companies.

The Gulf of Fethiye itself has more than enough locations to allow a week or two’s cruising and is central to the whole South West coast of Turkey.

Fethiye: A bustling "real," Turkish town gives an insight into local life and hosts a beautiful marina, which boasts some of the most beautiful Gulets in Turkey. Fethiye was called "Telmessos," in ancient times and was the principal port of the Lycian coast. The market area of the town is a fascinating warren of shops and stalls where most things can be,"bartered." Fethiye also boasts many ancient rock tombs, which are well worth a visit.

Hints & Tips

Climate
The Lycian coast of Turkey enjoys pleasant year round weather. However in the heat of the summer it is not unusual for temperatures to reach more than 35C. Please make sure that adequate sun protection is always used and it is important to drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration. (We recommend to drink only bottled water and not from the tap). As in all Mediterranean countries mosquitos can be a nuisance. It is a good idea to apply repellent to all exposed skin. Mosquito deterrent devices for the room are widely available both in the UK and locally in Turkey.

Average annual daily temperatures (‘C)

What to Bring
In view of Turkeys beautiful climate we recommend that you travel light. Please remember that the baggage allowance on most charter airlines is 20kg for checked baggage plus one small item of cabin baggage not exceeding 5kg in weight per person. We recommend that guests bring jelly shoes or sandals for wearing on beaches, as some can be pebbly and hard on bare feet. For guests wishing to explore the crystal clear waters of the Turquoise Coast we recommend that they bring a mask and snorkel with them.

Paying Locally
A mixture of traveller’s cheques, sterling cash, some Turkish Lira and credit cards will give you the most flexibility in Turkey. There are anumber of cash dispensers (ATM) locally to the villa and you can withdraw Turkish lire or Pounds Sterling.

Health & Safety
We are committed to high standards of Health & Safety and our guests safety is of paramount importance. It is important to remember however that on arrival you familiarise yourself with your surroundings and read the guide, which has been left in the villa. You should also speak to the local representative of Nicholas Estates for local information. If you have young children in your party please remember that Opal Villa enjoys it’s own large, private swimming pool. Children and non- swimmers should be supervised at all times when in the vicinity of the pool. Never swim in the pool whilst under the influence of alcohol.

Water & Electricity
The voltage is 220 volts AC, and you will need a two pin adapter plug. Conserving the water supply is important and although plenty of water is available, be aware that problems, whilst rare, do occasionally occur. It is also not unusual for there to be power cuts from time to time. Opal Villa enjoys both electric and gas cooking facilities – but please be patient!

Local Transport
The most popular form of local transport is the dolmus (bus) service. This is a shared mini-bus that follows specific routes and is very cheap. Ordinary taxis are also available. Guests wishing to hire a car should take their international driving licence.

Language
Turkish is the national language however in most resorts you will find that English is widely spoken.

Sadie says: "Fantastic outside space & pools, great for our small children. They loved the baby pool. The pool was cleaned every day. Villa very clean. Kitchens very well equipped. Owners excellent comminication & Nicholas villa rep very helpful in Turkey. The basement apartment had some plaster falling off the walls due to damp?I was told remedial work is due to be undertaken soon. Bit dissappointed with the welcome pack (bread, milk, jam, marg, water & Tbags) hoped for a bit more for £21. "
