Getting there & things to do
Les Saules is a charming four bedroom house in a beautiful setting on the bank of the River Lot in the Départment of Aveyron. We hope you will decide to book a holiday and have a delightful and relaxing break. Just three hours from Stansted airport (and very reasonable return fares), or 8 hours drive from Le Havre, the house is an ideal place for either a short, or a long stay. Its also 2.5 hours from Bergerac or 2 hours from Limoges or Toulouse airports by road. There is a railway station at Capdenac, with rail connections both north and south. There are lots of travel options.

Simply relax on the terrace with a glass of wine, or by the pool with a good book, walk or cycle along the river bank, or canoe along the river. Watch out for red squirrels, kingfishers and other wildlife. Drive to one of many medieval bastide towns and enjoy excellent restaurants, museums, markets, shops, and the vibrancy of living traditions. The list of activities is endless. You can do as much, or as little, as you wish and we are absolutely sure you will not be disappointed.



 
The house
Les Saules has:

• Two floors, with the main living area on the first floor
• Child friendly balcony to two sides of the property (east and south), with gate and lovely views over the garden and river valley beyond
• Four bedrooms (two upstairs, two down) sleeping eight people comfortably
• Two bathrooms (one upstairs, one downstairs), one with spa bath. Both have powerful showers.
• A separate toilet
• Large open plan living and dining area with seating for eight people
• Flat screen television and DVD player
• Modern, well equipped kitchen
• Laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer
• 10m x 5m pool with safety cover, fence and large sun terrace
• Half an acre of garden fully enclosed by a fence with secure gates
• Numerous fruit trees including figs, apples, apricots, pears, plums, cherries, hazelnuts and walnuts, all available to pick in season.
• Parking for two cars
• Double garage
• Books, games, sand pit and swing

The house can accommodate up to 8 people and is furnished to a very high standard. Couples or smaller groups are welcome to stay at competitive “just for” prices outside of peak season. We will consider winter lets at competitive rates. Please ask.

The house is on two levels, with the living area on the first floor. This “upside down” arrangement allows you to make the most of the breeze during the day, and sleep in the coolest part of the house at night. The open plan living /dining area is bright and airy with two sets of French doors leading out onto the balcony. The balcony is on two sides of the house (east and south facing) with wonderful views of the river. It is child friendly with a secure gate, and is screened by trees, which helps to keep the house cool in summer.  
The region
Situated in the heart of south-west France, the Midi-Pyrénées stretches from the wooded hills of the Dordogne to the river valleys of the Pyrénées. It is one of the largest regions in France, with ancient towns, villages, castles, Romanesque churches and a very deep history. If you’re in search of small medieval villages, rolling hills and wonderful landscapes in the mountains, this is the perfect place for you! Lovers of nature will be impressed by the region’s unique valleys, incredible forests and lakes.

Guests can wander along the riverbank and up into the village to pick up fresh bread and croissants from the boulangerie or groceries from the organic shop. There is an old, abandoned, chateau in the village, along with a children’s play area, and guests can play petanque in the square with the locals. Les Berges du Lot, which has a bar and a restaurant, is a family run business within strolling distance of the house and serves delicious food. There is also a traditional restaurant 5minutes drive away in Asprières, which is guaranteed to fill you up with wholesome, home cooked food, served in eye popping quantities, at a very reasonable price. There is a lovely church at St Martin de Bouillac, just over the river.

This is a really good location for walking, cycling, or just relaxing. The river provides swimming for all the family, or for those who prefer to stay dry, canoeing and fishing, are practically on the doorstep.

There is also a lido, with flumes, in nearby Figeac, an outdoor public pool in Decazeville and an indoor pool at Cap de Nac.

Figeac, a wealthy trading town during the Middle Ages, is renowned for its exceptional heritage, and is on the pilgrimage route running from La Puy-en-Velay in eastern France through Conques and Cahors and on to Santiago de Compostela in Spain . The town council is pursuing a policy of renovating its superb sandstone façades and sumptuous houses and their decorative sculptures
