El Cherqui is a two hundred year old traditional stone house sited on a hill with an uninterrupted view of a valley of olive trees. It's conversion & interior was designed & furnished by a Hollywood movie stylist & is a great mix of local furnishings with a 'California' attitude to openess & light. It has been featured in several magazines & books on Morocco including Marie Claire Maison & the Conran book on Moroccan design.Even so it is very laid back & not just for adults. Many visitors with families have also stayed at the house.It's a great place to get away from it all, relax and watch the world go by.

Because the house is in the countryside you will need to hire a car as public transport is unpredictable.

The house is not really suitable for children or people who have mobility problems.



 

The house has three bedrooms, a large living room and dining area.
There is a smaller living room with large open fireplace for Christmas & New Year fires. The house has Moroccan style garden with a shaded courtyard, hammock & barbeque area at the rear. There is also a fantastic roof terrace where it is possible to relax in the day or sleep under the stars at night. 

The main local town is Essouira, on Morocco's Atlantic coast. It's very famous for it's music festival it's been linked with artists, musicians & writers for many years. Jimi Hendrix hung out here & Orson Welles made 'Othello' in Essouira & scenes for Oliver Stone's movie 'Alexander' was filmed nearby. It?s become a very active centre for water sports with schools teaching surfing, wind-surfing & kite surfing.
 

There are several acres of land attatched to the property with olive trees. The house is solar powered it has the usual electrical equipment you would expect. lights, CD player etc however you cannot use a hair dryer...sorry!

The country house comprises 3 bedrooms in total; 2 double, 1 twin, 3 of the bedrooms with en-suite facilities. . This gives room for up to 6 people. Bed linen and towels are provided for your use.

The country house has 2 bathrooms and 3 WCs for your party's use.

There is room for 15 in the living room and 8 in the dining room. The open fire can be used to create a comfortable atmosphere. To prepare food you will find a cooker, a fridge, a kettle. The owner has also provided cutlery, crockery, glassware, cooking utensils.

The country house is in a very quiet area. It has a garden, a patio area (with heater), panoramic views, a barbeque. If you are driving there is private parking with the outside areas of the house having external lighting.

Sandy says: "El Cherqui is wonderful!!! Completley off the beaten path and divine. The house is kitted out with all that you will need but the solar power does run out quite early if it has been overcast that day.... but who cares candlelight is romantic! I would recommened a sturdy car as the house is "OFF road". It takes about 25 mins to drive to Essaoira and It really was lovely to leave the town and head back to the country and enjoy the remote roof terrace at sunset with panoramic views. The decor is stylish and and the house is so welcoming. I will be going back as soon as I can! Take candels and adapters with you and ENJOY!"
