Frigiliana is one of the prettiest, and best known, of the white washed hill villages of the Costa del Sol. Our Frigiliana apartment is in the centre of the old village, 3 minutes walk to the Square of St Antonio. Recent restoration work has resulted in Frigiliana being awarded first prize for village conservation by the Ministry of Tourism. The apartment is ideal for a Frigiliana holiday.
There are many bars and restaurants near to our Frigiliana holiday rental in Frigiliana. All of them provide good food at reasonable prices for your Frigiliana holiday. Supermarkets are within 5 miles.

300 metres from our Frigiliana apartment is the sports centre with a comprehensive gym and an (almost) Olympic sized swimming pool. Both are available at reasonable prices. 15 minutes away is golf and water adventure park.

Nerja, the nearest beach resort, is a 15 minute bus or car trip from this holiday rental in Frigiliana . Buses leave every hour from the children's playground, 150 metres beyond the sports centre and 7 minutes walk from our Frigiliana holiday apartment. 

The largest part of the Frigiliana landscape occupies the mountain range of the Almijara Sierra national park, and our Frigiliana holiday apartment has views of this beautiful area. Nearby there is the Higueron river in the Chillar valley and a dramatic gorge with waterfalls which provides dramatic walking and hiking opportunities.

The fields in front and to the side of the Frigiliana holiday apartment grow advocados, figs and other delicious produce which is available in the local shops all within a few minutes walk from our Frigiliana holiday apartment. The clear water from the sierra, irrigates the terraces & fields of Frigiliana creating a lush green landscape. Near our Frigiliana apartment is a source of mineral water which is delicious so fill some bottles.

The sub tropical climate of Frigiliana has attracted visitors through the centuries and evidence of a Roman occupation of Frigiliana is clear from the excavation of the fort they built for security and defence. In fact the origin of the village's name appears to be Roman, deriving from "frexinius" together with the suffix "ana" so in Roman times the area may have been known as Frexinio. Maybe we should have given this name to our Frigiliana holiday apartment!

The Romans were succeeded by the Arabs and it was during their period of settlement and rule that Frigiliana grew, developed and prospered. Instead of the fort a castle (now gone) was constructed at the summit of the mountain and the village came to dominate the surrounding area. During this time it is probable that the name of the village became Fixiana. You can still walk up the mountain from the Frigiliana holiday apartment but choose a cool day and drink plenty of water.

Archaeological investigation of Frigiliana has proved the existence of prehistoric communities thriving, the evidence being the discovery of human bones and artifacts including tools, cooking utensils and weapons.
