"La Canonica" is a beautiful old stone house dating from the 12th century, set amongst the vineyards of the green rolling hills of Umbria. The house is located very close to the famous hill town of Orvieto and is just one hour from Rome with easy access by train. The section of the house available for renting is an independent apartment which consists of 2 bedrooms, one living room/kitchen and one bathroom with shower.
The apartment is tastefully furnished in traditional Umbrian style with terracotta floors, wood beamed and terracotta ceilings throughout. A couple of rustic wood stoves keep it toasty warm in winter, while the thick stone walls make for a comfortable inside temperature during the summer months. The house sits just above the old stone village or ´borgo' of Botto, adding to the medieval charm of this special location. The view from the garden is stunning, with the borgo, beautiful vineyards, a distant castle, Lake Corbara and the Abruzzi mountains visible on the horizon. Ancient Orvieto, with its majestic Duomo is only a 10 minute drive and sits high above an outcrop of volcanic tufo honeycombed with old Etruscan tunnels.

 

The apartment sleeps up to 4 people, very comfortably. Downstairs, there is a fully-equipped kitchen/living area, a bedroom with a queen bed and a bathroom. Upstairs, there is one bedroom with two twin beds. A small garden with a naturally shaded patio provides a beautiful setting to relax, have meals and enjoy the beautiful view.

 

The house is conveniently located within minutes of shopping and a wide variety of restaurants. It offers a great venue for biking, walking in the countryside, exploring great local wines and ancient Etruscan ruins. Some of Italy's cultural treasures are close at hand and having easy access to the Florence to Rome Autostrada (A-1) means that La Canonica is an ideal base for exploring the treasures of Umbria, Tuscany and Lazio. Florence, Perugia, Assisi, Todi, Montepulciano, San Gimignano, Pienza, Rome and others can all easily be reached for a day of seeing the sights.

Catering/cooking services are available on demand from a local neighbour who is an excellent cook!

The country house comprises 2 bedrooms in total; 1 double, 1 twin. . This gives room for up to 4 people. Bed linen and towels are provided for your use.
