Seducing small rural white manor house, surrounded by walls, at the edge of a small village, where we are wellcommed and pampered by the locals.
It is a refugee for our big family and friends, although only 1 1/2 hours from Lisbon, it makes us feel we are far far away. The buildings and decoration somehow remind us of North Africa. The unspoilt surroundings – like the working windmill – makes us feel in the early XXth century!
Built in 1889 by wealthy farmers the house was recently recovered using traditional materials (taipa), that preserve the indoor temperature cool in the summer and cozi in winter.
Since its purchase 4 yrs ago we have been slowly restoring it to its original appearance.
 

5 kms away in the typpical old town of Messejana, you can find restaurants, newspapers, a bank, a drugstore and other kind of stores.
Also 5kms away you have the “Monte da Rocha” lake, where you can swim, fish, and practice non-motorised water sports.
Further away, approximately 15kms, you have the bigger towns of Aljustrel, Castro Verde and Ourique with historic and cultural sites: castles, churches, and museums.
The magnificent coastal beaches of Alentejo are 45 kms of empty roads away. The Algarve coastline is situated less than 80 kms south. Lisbon is only 170 kms by motorway.
A car is recommended to fully enjoy the area.
 

“Casa da Torre” is located in the small village of Conceição, with a population of 60 inhabitants.
The basic needs like groceries, fresh bread, fruit, vegetables, fish, cheese and local sausages are sold in the local store or delivered daily by salesmen that come to the doorway.
 

The property built in 1889, comprises two houses: the main house and a cottage, garden with swimming pool and a poolhouse with a barbecue next to swimming pool, equiped for meals and bar, including an extra fridge and dishwasher. Most rooms are equiped with a wood stove. there are bicycles for riding

The country house comprises 6 bedrooms in total; 4 double, 2 twin and 1 cots, 4 of the bedrooms with en-suite facilities. . This gives room for up to 12 people. Bed linen and towels are provided for your use.

The country house has 6 bathrooms for your party's use. Central heating keeps you snug and warm.

The country house has television dvd, satellite/cable. The music system will play cds. Recreational activities available with the country house include a snooker/pool table.

There is room for 10 in the living room and 12 in the dining room. The open fire can be used to create a comfortable atmosphere. To prepare food you will find a cooker, an oven, a microwave, a fridge, a freezer, a kettle, a toaster. You will also find a dish washer, a washing machine, an iron and ironing board. The owner has also provided cutlery, glassware, cooking utensils.

Smoking is allowed in this country house.

The country house is in a very quiet area. It has a private south facing swimming pool, a south facing garden, a summer house, a west facing patio area, panoramic views, a barbeque.

The country house is right beside swimming, walking, cycling, a food shop.

Close to the country house you will find wind surfing, fishing, historic sites, a museum, a theatre/cinema, shopping areas, a restaurant.

Within easy reach of the country house you will find a beach.

Andrea says: "Beautifully restored house, full of character, in the midst of a tiny but friendly village. Plenty of space both indoors and outdoors. Salesmen come in their vans 6 days a week to sell fish, bread and cakes and the local shop is surprisingly well stocked. The area is very tranquil and ideal for a relaxing, stress free break yet within half an hours drive of several towns. Excellent value for money and would definitely recommend. Thank you Jorge."
