Vecchia Casa is a beautiful apartment decorated in the rustic style using muted colours, antique furniture and fittings, natural materials and soft lighting for that intimate atmosphere.

The views from the apartment and garden are stunning. One can see 4 ruined castles, woodland and rolling hills, where shepherds tend their sheep and mountains in the distance.

The covered garden terrace is perfect for dining al-fresco or by candlelight, perfumed by the sweet smell of honeysuckle

We share the organic fruit & vegtables from our garden with our guests.

We are easy to find, yet the location is peaceful, a hamlet, surrounded by rolling hills, olive groves and vineyards.

Here you find the contrast of a rural setting, where within minutes from our door wild boar roam the woods at night , yet we are within 30 minutes of the bustling town of Perugia, with many cultural activities. We are just south of Lago Trasimeno with its many boating activities and a famous bird sanctuary.

Within easy reach of Vecchia Casa are supermarkets, banks, shops, cafes, bars, restaurants and a small local market.

It is the ideal setting from which to explore the countryside, noted for its vineyards and the plentiful medieval towns and villages for which Umbria is famous. Almost every type of outdoor sport is catered for.

Perugia Airport is only 45 minutes from Vecchia Casa, where Ryanair now fly 4 times a week from London Stansted. 

Within easy reach in Umbria, are Perugia the bustling university town, noted for its Etruscan monuments and art gallery and museums. Assisi is the magical town, where St Francis was born, nestling under Mount Subasio. Panicale, a perfectly preserved hilltop fortress town, medieval Gubbio, Deruta, famous for its majolica ware & the Montefalco & the Orvieto wine districts, while just to the north is Lago Trasimeno.

In Tuscany you can easily reach Chiusi known for its Etruscan archeological sites, Cortona, made famous in the book "Under the Tuscan Sun", Arezzo for antiques, Siena, Montepulchiano & the Chianti wine districts, as well as Florence, which needs no introduction.

Within both regions, one can explore the varied countryside with its hills, lakes and mountains to discover their rich historical past, including the site where Hannibal massacred the Romans

For those who enjoy cultural activities, within a short drive, one can enjoy concerts, the theatre, cinema, local festivals and a number of museums, plus visit many archeological sites, as this is the centre of the ancient Etruscan culture.

Vecchia Casa is between 4 major wine districts which may easily be explored.


 

Within easy reach are shops, cafes and restaurants, located in the nearby town of Tavernelle just 8 minutes from the house. Within a few minutes from the apartment is a gourmet restaurant a top a beautiful hill, overlooking Lago Trasimeno. The many small towns and villages near, also offer a wide variety of shopping and places in which to eat..

Throughout the year there are numerous local festivals in which guests may easily participate and enjoy. The most famous of these being Umbria Jazz in July and the International Chocolate Festival in October.

There are endless sport activities, including walking, trekking, sailing, fishing, mountain biking, horseback riding, swimming, mountain climbing.

 

The bed can be made into 2 singles if preferred We share our organic home grown produce, including fruit from the orchard with our guests. There's also a small vegetable/herb garden for the use of guests. We offer the use of our old garden forno (bread/pizza oven) for making pizzas We offer an emailing service and calls to Skype users We provide the use of our washing machine We are happy to assist those guests who wish to participate in local activities. Our garden is available to those who simply wish to sit and relax while enjoying the beauty of the area.

The apartment comprises 1 bedrooms in total; 1 double, 1 of the bedrooms with en-suite facilities. The property also has 1 single sofa bed located in the In the open plan living room. This gives room for up to 3 people. Bed linen and towels are provided for your use.

The apartment has 1 bathrooms and 1 WCs for your party's use. Central heating keeps you snug and warm.

The apartment has dvd. A computer with Internet connection is also available for your use. If you need to keep in contact there is a telephone for incoming calls only.

There is room for 3 in the living room and 3 in the dining room. To prepare food you will find a cooker, an oven, a microwave, a fridge, a kettle, a toaster. You will also find a washing machine, a clothes drier, an iron and ironing board. The owner has also provided cutlery, crockery, glassware, cooking utensils.

The apartment is in a quiet area but you may hear occasional noise. It has a west facing garden, a south facing patio area, panoramic views, a barbeque. If you are driving there is private parking with the outside areas of the house having external lighting.

The apartment is right beside walking.

Close to the apartment you will find swimming, cycling, mountain biking, tennis, shopping areas, a restaurant, a food shop.

Within easy reach of the apartment you will find sailing, water skiing, boat hire, wind surfing, fishing, climbing, horse riding, golf, historic sites, a museum, a theatre/cinema.

Review submitted by non-Villarenters customer: My husband and I stayed at Vecchia Casa for 5 days last May 2006. We wanted a private and lovely stay in Umbria that would allow us to explore nearby areas including Tuscany. Vecchia Casa has all that and more. Karen, the energetic devoted proprietress was a wonderful hostess and we had all the privacy we needed in the tastefully constructed and decorated apartment that connects to her charming country house on a hillock in a tiny commune near Tavernelle. She helped us locate the markets and sites to visit including Panicale, Cortona, Assisi and Perugia. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer.
