Built into the side of the mountain our 'El Ladero' (Redoubt) apartments offer breathtaking wraparound vistas of the Sierra Nevada mountains and the spectacular Canales Reservoir.

Situated in the pretty town of Guejar Sierra within a stone's throw of a variety of interesting local bars and restaurants (many of which open up pools for customers in the summer), the apartments are perfectly situated. Historic Granada with the famous Alhambra Palace is only 20 minutes away & the Sierra Nevada ski resort is 25- 23 minutes (20 mins when the new direct link road is completed in 2007). Stunning walks & countryside activities (fishing, birdwatching, climbing, canoeing, canoning, cross country skiing paragliding etc) all begin literally on the doorstep. The fascinating troglodyte region around Guadix is close at hand and the beaches of the Costa Tropical can be reached within 45 minutes.

We have two beautiful, spacious apartments available - La Pequena has 1 large, double bedroom, a spacious living room (with double sofabed if required) and balconies to sit on and enjoy the spectacular sunset over the mountains with cold glass of something. If desired it can be linked (via an interior "patio andaluz onto which both apartments can open) to our larger apartment - El Grande which has has 3 bedrooms (sleeping 6) and huge south-facing terrace.

Both apartments have dramatic mountain views from bedrooms and living rooms, and enjoy luxuries such as air-conditioning in summer, central heating in winter and dedicated parking (included in the price).

 

Guejar Sierra is situated in the heart of the Sierra Nevada national park - an area of outstanding natural beauty. The town itself is typically Spanish and very pretty with its cobbled streets and neat white houses with flower draped balconies. It clings to the mountainside overlooking the mighty peaks of Europe's most southerly ski resort. Only 25 minutes from the ski lifts - it offers the opportunity to combine both the varied skiing of the Sierra Nevada (with views of Africa from the upper slopes) and the experience of staying in a traditional Spanish village. For those not interested in the skiing, Guejar Sierra is even closer to the beautiful historic city of Granada - home to the astounding Alhambra Palace. The legacy of the Moorish kings of Granada is everywhere - in the courtyards, fountains, gardens and buildings.

Guejar Sierra has long been popular both as a summer and winter destination among the Spanish - and can offer plenty of restaurants and nice bodegas, both in the town itself and close by in the surrounding area. Many have lovely terraces on which to sit and drink in the views while you eat in the summer, and many also have pools, so you can enjoy a cooling dip while you have a drink. There is also a lovely mountain pool to swim in at Maitena and the dramatic Canales reservoir itself (which also offers boating)

The people in Guejar are friendly and welcoming and, in typical Andalucian manner, the calendar is studded with local fiestas which keep alive traditions such as the Romeria in August, when the Gitanos, in their tight black suits, gallop their fine horses through the streets, each with a pretty girl on his pommel.

Although so close to Granada, Guejar Sierra is still very much a well-kept Spanish secret - barely discovered yet by tourists from other countries.

Can also link to another (3 double bedroomed) apartment via an internal 'patio andaluz' and the two can be rented together for large parties.

The apartment comprises 2 bedrooms in total; 1 double, 1 twin and 1 cots, 1 of the bedrooms with en-suite facilities. . This gives room for up to 4 people. Bed linen and towels are provided for your use.

The apartment has 1 bathrooms and 1 WCs for your party's use. Air-conditioning keeps the apartment cool. Central heating keeps you snug and warm.

The apartment has television dvd. The music system will play cds, radio.

There is room for 4 in the living room and 4 in the dining room. To prepare food you will find a cooker, an oven, a microwave, a fridge, a freezer, a kettle, a toaster. You will also find a washing machine, a clothes drier, an iron and ironing board. The owner has also provided cutlery, crockery, glassware, cooking utensils.

Smoking is allowed in this apartment.

The apartment is in a very quiet area. It has a south facing balcony, panoramic views, interesting views, a barbeque. If you are driving there is a garage with the outside areas of the house having external lighting.

The apartment is right beside walking, cycling, mountain biking, historic sites, a restaurant, a food shop.

Close to the apartment you will find swimming, boat hire, wind surfing, fishing, climbing, horse riding, skiing/snowboarding, tennis, a museum, shopping areas.

Within easy reach of the apartment you will find a beach, sailing, water skiing, flying, golf, a sports center, scuba diving, a theatre/cinema.

Europe's most southerly ski resort . Also paragliding, rafting, canoeing. Ice/rock climbing

James says: "Apartment-lovely views everything you need Although we did have noisey neighbours next door over weekend (2 young couples) Walls are very thin. Ok when families there. Check with the owner who has rented there other apartment. My wife couldnt sleep to noisey (light sleeper) kids & I fine! Parking excellant but a tight squeeze (estate car). Village was lovely but nothing for kids to do. Skiing was great when it was open. It was open 5 out of 8 days due to wind. You drove up to arrive at 8.45 (40 mins from apartment) Lots of bends in road take sickness bands for kids we did. Make sure you are on gondola before 9.15 its like a cattle market after this time. If you get there and find it is too windy for gondola to work they say wait a couple of hours to see if it may open. Our advice dont bother it never did. Due to dodgy weather buy passes daily if you are there for 8.40 hardly a que and saves getting your money back. If you go to the Mirlo Blanc (ski resort kids park next to 4 man chair) Make sure everything is working before you pay. 15 euro ph only 2 things working and one broke after 5 mins. Hope this helps anyone."
