When we saw the spectacular views that the property offered, we fell in love with it. We then noticed all the rural activity that our neighbors do: tending their agro fields and herding sheep, cows, goats, pigs, and occasionally ducks, and we smiled, for our grandchildren would look forward to experience this very rural paradise. We took walks, we drove around, we visited the nearby hot spings and decided, this is the place to come to for a weekend getaway! It turned out to be great for families with or without children and to invite friends.

We decided to have it built environmentally friendly, so we used tapial which is made of soil as the main material. As a result, the house has the same 75 degree temperature day and night…We also used design stucco for the ceilings, an artesanal product made by our people.

The property is at the end of a road, thus there is hardly any traffic. There is a bus lane that ends there as well and departs to Quito via San Rafael and Sangolquí on the hour. If you want to tour around, however, you may need a car.

Quinta La Solana, is a kilometer away from the charming and friendly little town of La Merced where there are small food stores and other supplies. It is also where the Hot Springs are located.

For a more sophisticated shopping, movies, restaurants, and megasupermarket, we go to San Rafael (San Luis Mall), 15 minutes away.

This is a non-smoking villa, however, you may smoke outside the villa. 

Located in the friendly little village of La Merced on the outskirts of Quito where forever families have used their villas as weekend getaways. La Merced, a 10 minute walk from our place is famed for its volcanic hot springs, and their wonderful religious celebrations where masked dancers take over the town. It's town square with a quaint church, small shops and internet services get busy on weekends. Nearby is Alangasí (10 min drive), a town known for their Holy Week and Corpus Christi celebrations which are amongst the country's most traditional and colorful. Great shopping, restaurants and movies are in San Rafael (10 min.drive) and a bit further is historic Sangolqui, (15 mins.) known for its great wet and animal market on Thursdays and Sundays. Mountain excursions include Ilaló, (10 min.drive) and the Western Hemispher's highest active volcano, snow-capped Cotopaxi (about an hour drive) Also, the wonderful hot springs of Papallacta (also an hour drive car) that sits on a volcano crater!

The property includes the main house and a caretaker's cottage.It is sourrended by trees and flowers all year. It has a fireplace-oven in the living-dining area, a fireplace in the master bedroom, brathtaking views of the mountains, a path built within the property to reach the river or just to stroll, a terrace, an outdoor jacuzzi, and a barbecue area. The river at the base of the property is lined with 150 foot tall giant eucalytus trees and makes a lovely spot for a picnic. A caretaker lives in his small cottage, thus there is a 24 hour security.

First Floor
An ample sitting area with exit and view to the garden and mountains, integrates to the dining and kitchen areas. There is a very cozy fireplace-oven that gives you a warm, seductive atmosphere. The kitchen is equipped with modern appliances & an island with 4 stools and a good size pantry.
The second bedroom has two bunker beds, ample storage space and window views to the garden. A good size bathroom with a shower complements this bedroom.

Second Floor
Glass double doors lead to the terrace from which you see 350 degrees of spectacular mountain view. This level includes an wide open master suite with sitting area in front of the cozy fireplace and a balcony. The windows have spectacular views of the mountains and gardens as well. The tastefully decorated master bathroom has an antique soaking tub, and his and hers sinks.

Outdoor jacuzzi, river in property, full time security (caretaker lives in small house within the property) when in season, home grown vegetables available. If requested, we can provide a child's crib. Maid cleaning once a week.

The villa comprises 2 bedrooms in total; 2 double. The property also has 2 double bunk beds located in the in the downstairs bedroom. This gives room for up to 7 people. Bed linen and towels are provided for your use.

The villa has 2 bathrooms and 2 WCs for your party's use. The villa has a sauna.

The villa has television video, dvd. The music system will play radio. If you need to keep in contact there is a telephone for incoming and outgoing calls.

There is room for 7 in the living room and 5 in the dining room. The open fire can be used to create a comfortable atmosphere. To prepare food you will find a cooker, an oven, a microwave, a fridge, a kettle, a toaster. You will also find a washing machine, an iron and ironing board. The owner has also provided cutlery, crockery, glassware, cooking utensils.

The villa is in a very quiet area. It has a private south facing swimming pool, a south facing garden, a summer house, a south facing patio area, a east facing balcony, panoramic views, interesting views, a barbeque. Close to the villa you will find climbing, mountain biking, horse riding, golf, tennis, historic sites, a theatre/cinema, shopping areas, a restaurant, a food shop.

Ivy says: "The glory of this home and the peaceful atmosphere should truely be realized by your own eyes! The setting is idyllic with lush gardens and rolling hills, lit with early sun and sprakling dew. Upon our arrival, which was much later then expected (We had a run around with our rental car) Luis, the caretaker, was there to greet us with warmth and understanding. Walking through the doors of this impecible home we were thrilled. Maria Teresa is an amazing host, a beautiful woman, and a treasure to know. Her world travels and aritistic aestheticism welcomed us into a space where we could thoroughly relax and enjoy eachother as a family. We cooked wonderful food in a thorough and inviting kitchen. We sat on the patio and enjoyed coffee, conversation, and quite meditaions. We reveled in hot showers and hikes down the hills to the river. This was OUR home for the week and for this we are all thankful. Ecuador is an amazing country with open and kind people. I loved La Merced and this home specifically for its tranqility and pueblo atmosphere to really know a different side of this beautiful country. P.S A car here is a necessity in my opinion to see the beautiful surrounding city and pueblos, markets and amazing natural wonders. Ask Maria Teresa...you will be guided well. "
