Location .. Location ... Location
Nestled between the Costa Blanca and Costa del Sol lies the beautifully unspoilt region of the Costa Calida, in the Spanish province of Murcia. Spread over 250 kilometres between the provinces of Alicante and Almeria, the Costa Calida offers a sharp contrast to other more commercialised areas and boasts rugged coastline, spectacular mountain views, pine forests and the unique Mar Menor lagoon. The Costa Calida is serviced by two primary international airports … Murcia and Alicante with daily flights from all main airports. The A-7 motorway, far less cluttered than roads in the UK, runs all the way from the French border down the coast. Signs are easy to follow, leaving you to concentrate only on which side of the road you are travelling!

The small town of Roldán has a permanent population and has all the normal facilities that you would need (banks, supermarkets and basic shops). It is 12 minutes drive from the local airport (Murcia – San Javier) which is used from the UK by several low cost airlines and it is about 15 minutes from the beach (Los Alcazares). The Mar Menor is a mecca for all kinds of watersports. Golf is never far away here with the 3 courses of Villamartin, Campoamor and Las Ramblas 25 minutes north, the 3 championship courses at La Manga Club 15 minutes south and no less than 10 others either being built or planned for the area!

Our detached villa has a large lounge, American style kitchen, full bathroom and 2 bedrooms. The property features an attractive rooftop sun terrace, and a sizeable garden with off street parking. The overall plot size is approximately 200 m2).
Outside the property there is a rooftop solarium, Patio, garden area (laid with stone chippings) and off street parking. The front of the villa overlooks the communal green area, and it is approximately 200yards from the communal pool.

About the Region
When you arrive in the region of Murcia, you will discover one of south-east Spain's best kept secrets... blessed by areas of outstanding natural beauty, more than 3000 hours of sunshine and pleasant temperatures all year round. Use Roldan as your base as you discover its culture, its landscape and its heritage.

3000 Years of History
A rich history, the juxtaposition of different cultures and its strategic location at the crossroads between the south and the Mediterranean make the region of Murcia a fascinating place to visit. You can discover its extensive historical, artistic, architectural and cultural wealth both 'in situ' at the sites themselves or through the region's comprehensive network of museums.

Two Seas
Bordered by the blue Mediterranean, the coast of the region of Murcia boasts endless sandy beaches and spectacular scenery. And then there is the Mar Menor, Europe's largest saltwater lagoon, a delight for water sports enthusiasts.

Murcia
The regional capital, Murcia, is a 30-minute drive from Roldan. Founded in 831 AD, it has inherited over the years a rich fusion of Moorish, medieval Christian and baroque influences that can still be felt by today's visitor. Murcia is a welcoming and friendly city, pleasantly modern whilst maintaining its traditions.
Its most important monument is the cathedral, which is characterised by the variety of architectural styles that overlapped during its construction (1394-1462). The Bishop's Palace, the Casino and several churches are also well worth a visit, as are its museums and art galleries. In the town centre, you can stroll down Trapería and Platería streets, named after the cloth merchants or silversmiths who plied their trades in each. Don't miss the Romea theatre and City Hall, built in the 19th century, with pastel-coloured façades and unusual decorative features.
The Holy Week processions in Murcia are an expression of 'fiesta' and deep religious spirit. The life-sized woodcarvings of the Passion by Murcian sculptor Francisco Salzillo date from the 18th century and are carried through the streets on the shoulders of the faithful. A week later, the Spring Festival is a joyful celebration of the Murcian people's origins. On 'Bando de la Huerta' day, the locals put on splendid traditional costumes and spend the whole day in the streets eating and drinking.
Browsing around the city's streets, you will also find good shopping in nice boutiques, as well as pleasant squares in which to relax and enjoy a drink or typical tapas at one of the many cafés, while you experience the special atmosphere of this authentically Spanish city.

Cartagena
A 'must' for those visiting Roldan, Cartagena is, by no means, 'just another city'. It dates back to the times of conflict between the Carthaginians and Romans and is an ancient city with a great deal of historical and, as you might expect, archaeological interest.
Located around 20 kilometres from Roldan, the ancient city of Cartagena revolves around its port, which is one of the most important in Spain. At every turn, you will find evidence of its 2200 years of history, marked by the imprint of different civilisations, battles, ruins, ancient walls, castles and churches.
You could visit its numerous Roman and Byzantine ruins and its Roman theatre, its archaeological museums, or simply stroll through the city centre and marvel at its modernist architecture.
Shopping in the busy streets of its centre and its recently opened El Corte Inglés department store are a great way to complete your visit.

The Mar Menor
The Great Pool, the Little Sea... the so-called Mar Menor (Minor Sea) has been known by different names during the course of its history, all of which have described this singular natural phenomenon: a great coastal lagoon (originally an open bay), 170 square kilometres of warm salt water, the largest saltwater lagoon in Europe.
This setting has everything you need for water sports: great weather, a constant breeze, calm and shallow waters (less than seven metres at the deepest point)... there is no wonder it is considered one of Europe's best sailing destinations. Water sports enthusiasts will be spoilt for choice with sailing, canoeing, swimming, waterskiing, jet-skiing, fly-surfing, windsurfing and every other type of nautical activity you can imagine.
The stretch of land that separates the Mar Menor from the Mediterranean, called La Manga ('the sleeve'), is 24 kilometres long and between 200 metres to 1.5 kilometres in width. La Manga del Mar Menor is located between two seas and as such boasts infinite beaches, sandy seabeds and crystalline waters. The Mar Menor beaches are particularly popular with families with young children, because the warm, shallow water offers bathing fun for all ages.
All around the Mar Menor, picturesque villages such as Los Alcázares and Santiago de la Ribera, with seafront promenades bordered by majestic palm trees, are great for a day trip. Each day of the week, a local street market is hosted in a different town

San Pedro del Pinatar Salt Flats and Natural Park
The salt flats at San Pedro del Pinatar are the region's most important wetland area, home to large concentrations of aquatic nesting birds and where thousands of migratory birds rest during their journey between Europe and Africa. This regional park of rich environmental diversity and unspoilt beaches can easily be visited following well-marked pathways.

The Golf ......
This area has obtained the reputation as being the 'Costa del Golf'. There are in excess of 20 golf course either operational or in the process of being constructed.

The villa is located on the edge of 'La Torre' whilst still under construction, once completed this will be one of the flagships for the area.

Wherever you go in the area the golf is always close by, other courses near the villa include ...

CAMPO DE GOLF VILLAMARTIN - Villamartin is about 30 minutes drive from Roldán. To get there exit Roldán via the F-12 heading towards Balsicas, join the C-3319 heading towards Alicante / Cartagena, after about approximately 7 miles you will come to the A-37 motorway. Join the A-37 heading to Alicante and leave at exit 763. Inaugurated in 1972, designed by Paul Pitman, Villamartin Golf Club is an 18 hole, Par 72 course of 6132 metres with fairways of Bermuda grass and greens of Penncross. Villamartin is recognised as one of the best (golf) courses in Spain. The place oozes class as soon as you wander through the entrance gardens complete with fountain and statue of an angelic lady golfer. You won't be disappointed by the 6037 metre, par 72 course either. There are some great holes and plenty of expensive eye-catching mansions on the courses perimeter. You'll love it. What are the challenges ? A difficult one as there's such a healthy choice, but the 303 metre par four 7th, a downhill dogleg right to a green surrounded by cork trees, takes some beating. There's a gem of a finale too- an elevated tee where you drive over yet more trees, the hole turning abruptly left and the fairway looking wafer-thin from your position up in the clouds.

CAMPOAMOR GOLF COURSE - Real Campoamor Golf Club is about 30 minutes drive from Roldán. To get there exit Roldán via the F-12 heading towards Balsicas, join the C-3319 heading towards Alicante / Cartagena, after about approximately 7 miles you will come to the A-37 motorway. Join the A-37 heading to Alicante and leave at exit 763.
Only two miles from Villamartin, the Royal Campoamor Golf Club was opened in 1989 and was designed by Carmelo Gracias Caselles. It is 6203 metres long with a par of 72. The 18 holes are laid out in two connected valleys, surrounded by lush fairways and small hills which protect them from the wind. The round is very varied, the front nine at Campoamor are fairly open, but fast, well protected greens that are just waiting to catch the unwary. The back nine holes are an altogether more demanding proposition as they wind down through the steep sided hills. Although not as hazardous as Villamartin, it is the most panoramic of the courses in the region overlooking the coast from Torrevieja to La Manga del Mar Menor. The expansive fairways, excellent greens and the lakes deceive the player somewhat, making this is a long and testing course with six "dog legs" to keep you on your toes. The course is longer than the others in the area, but it has wider fairways so there's more room to "have a go"!. In summary a beautiful course, give it a try, you will love it.

La MARQUESA GOLF COURSE - La Marquesa Golf Course is about 40 minutes drive from Roldán. To get there exit Roldán via the F-12 heading towards Balsicas, join the C-3319 heading towards Alicante / Cartagena, after about approximately 7 miles you will come to the A-37 motorway. Join the A-37 heading to Alicante and leave at exit 740. The golf and country club "La Marquesa" is situated in the urbanization Ciudad Quesada, which is part of the district of Rojales. Built in 1972, designed by John Putman. It is located in a flat valley between mountains, and sheltered by its own unique microclimate. The layout of the round alternates between long holes and short ones. It is not excessively difficult and so players of all levels will enjoy it. The most difficult factor lies in the characteristic layout of the greens, with their attractive and complicated slopes. The course was extended to 18 holes in 1989, this is a Par 72, 5840 metres course with a driving range and practise facilities.

LAS RAMBLAS GOLF COURSE - This course offers, as the name suggests, a wonderful rambling course through valleys and over rugged terrain with the occasional water hazard, an excellent challenge! Maybe not for the fainthearted! Las Ramblas Golf Club is about 30 minutes drive from Roldán. To get there exit Roldán via the F-12 heading towards Balsicas, join the C-3319 heading towards Alicante / Cartagena, after about approximately 7 miles you will come to the A-37 motorway. Join the A-37 heading to Alicante and leave at exit 763. Only two miles from Villamartin, the Las Ramblas Golf Club was inaugurated in 1991, Las Ramblas was designed by famous Spanish golf architect José Gancedo. It is 5914 metres long and par 72. The golf course of Las Ramblas has 18 holes with narrow fairways , tricky obstacles and many canyons. The name Ramblas comes from the natural collection of rain water, which runs into the valleys, looking most time of the year like a dry riverbed. Protected from the wind by many trees (some are even to be found on the fairways!). The course is mountainous with ramblas (water courses) which can be up to 30 metres deep and other water hazards which make the course totally different from the others. The course is not too long and has wonderful views. Accuracy is required. "Las Ramblas, the incredible water hazards - the ramblas - which make this ( golf ) course different from others in the area" FORE! magazine (Jan 2000 issue)

MOSA GOLF – MOSA TRAJECTUM - The exclusive golf resort Mosa Trajectum is situated between the unspoilt beaches of the Costa Cálida and Murcia. The resort lies at the foot of the Murcian hills and at the borders of an UNESCO owned Nature Reserve. Mosa Trajectum is situated only 7 km from Roldán, to get there exit Roldán via the F-12 heading towards Balsicas, join the C-3319 heading towards Murcia – you will see the complex on your right hand side. This 27-hole ecological golf course was designed by Brian Connelly and Peter Hoogcarspel, Mosa Golf hosted the PGA EuroPro Tour Championship in October 2004 which confirmed that Mosa Golf is a world class Championship Golf Course. In addition to the 27 hole championship course (Stone, Olive & Pine Course) Mosa Golf also has a par 3 (Challenge Course). The championship course runs through the resort, through a spectacular and challenging landscape with a variety of plants and trees, cacti, open rock faces and a multitude of water features.

LA MANGA GOLF CLUB - La Manga Club is approximately 25 minutes drive from Roldán. The Club has always been synonymous with golf, and with its three championship courses and outstanding practice facilities, it is perhaps hardly surprising that it has been voted Europe's top golf resort twice in the past five years. The resort has also recently been chosen as the official winter training base of the German PGA. Many international tournaments have been hosted at La Manga Club, including the Spanish Open, Spanish PGA Championships, Spanish Junior Championships, Ladies' Spanish Open and Senior Spanish Open for men, not to mention countless televised corporate and celebrity golf events. With a choice of three superb, 18-hole championship courses, each with its own unique style and terrain, but all offering tranquil surroundings and many outstanding views, there is something to challenge golfers of all ages and abilities. The three top-quality, 18-hole championship courses all benefit from uniquely tranquil surroundings and provide many superb views. Whether you are fine-tuning your technique or learning the rudiments of the game, La Manga Golf Club offers a truly diverse and unique golfing experience
