Playa Flamenca lays approximately 8km south of Torrevieja. The beautiful sandy beaches of Orihuela Costa can be easily reached on foot. A car is advisable but not essential. By public bus you can reach Torrevieja in no time at all, also the golf courses of Las Ramblas, Campoamor and Villamartin.

In Playa Flamenca there is a mixture of different nationalities including Spanish and other Europeans.

Being a residential area the winter in Playa Flamenca is still a hive of activity.

14 km of sandy beaches, backed by sand dunes at Guardamar de Segura and La Marina are just 10 km away. The best of both worlds - rural seclusion with every amenity close at hand.

Fishing and yacht harbours, walking pier, markets, restaurants, supermarkets, aqua-park, Olympic swimming pool, new hospital, golf and a salt lake are to name a few of the local amenities. A salt lake generates therapeutic effects and a micro-climate which marks Torrevieja out from other neighbouring towns.

One hour's drive away is Benidorm where there are half a dozen theme/aqua parks. Terra Mitica is Spains best Theme Park featuring over 60 thrilling rides and spectacular shows.

Locally, the climate is very stable, belonging to the temperate Continental type, with predominantly mild temperatures in winter as in summer. A sunny climate predominates for most of the year. The coldest months are January and February, with temperatures ranging from 12 to 16 degrees and the hottest months are July and August with temperatures ranging from 28 to 35 degrees.

The Autumn - from October to December - is a very mild season with temperatures ranging from 21 to 27 degrees. Rainfall is scarce and intermittent. 

NATURE PARK OF THE LAGOONS OF LA MATA AND TORREVIEJA

The lagoons of La Mata and Torrevieja are made up a wetland of special interest for their botanical value and landscape of undoubted beauty as well as the socio-economic aspect, since we must not forget that inside the park there is the working of the salt lakes. among the most important in Europe.

More than a hundred species of birds live alongside some amphibians and many reptiles in the park that is made up of two lagoons separated by a strip of land. There is also a series of levels of vegetation around the lagoons, fundamentally determined by the salinity of the earth and the use that man makes of the land.

The importance of the Torrevieja and La Mata lagoons can be appreciated by the fact that they constitute 52% of the municipal area. This unique environment is a "must" for all nature lovers.

STREET MARKETS

Street markets are very popular in Torrevieja and the surrounding villages.

The street market is an alternative to traditional commerce and in them you can obtain numerous objects for decoration, textiles, clothing, interior design, craft, animals, footwear and horticultural produce at very reasonable prices, which can sometimes be good buys.

The street markets have a real arab-style market atmosphere and have achieved great popularity amongst the Spanish and the thousands of Europeans that visit Torrevieja.

Some are held once a week and others are permanent. They are often held on seaside promenades.

TAXIS

The Torrevieja taxi service is made up of 73 vehicles. Taxis can usually be found in their designated areas. Some of these are near the Town Hall, the town centre, at the bus station, near the local police station, at health centres and in various residential areas.

There is a minimum tariff for using a taxi and an additional price per kilometre which is shown on the small counter machines called taximetres, which means that you can see for yourself the price of each journey. Journeys within the town can not exceed 30 euros.

Torrevieja and its surrounding areas are a paradise for golf players. There are several excellent golf courses, such as Villa Martin, Las Ramblas, Campoamor, La Marquesa and La Manga, in the area. The standard of these courses is proven by frequent visits of The King of Spain. All courses are challenging in their own way, some are park like, whilst others have plenty of hazards and those devilish gorges that are typical of golf courses in Spain. They are all of championship length (18 holes), and are less crowded than the ones at Costa del Sol. At Costa Blanca every golfer is sure to find the course of his dreams - some of which offer the cheapest fees in Europe!

The Villamartin course is not long but has been adapted by the natural surroundings with the presence of water obstacles at some holes. The course is known for its narrow fairways and greens. Accurate hitting and precision are required to maintain your handicap. There are only 4 holes where water does not feature. The rocky terrain is spectacular, with elevated tees, narrow fairways and lightning fast greens.
