Kingfisher Cottage is a detached gite set in a rural farming hamlet. Originally a grain store, it has been fully renovated to provide comfortable holiday accommodation for couples or small families. Inside, the fully-tiled open-plan ground floor has a beamed ceiling, exposed stone work and a feature fireplace. A comfortable sofa and two armchairs, together with lamps and rugs ensure the sitting area is a comfortable and relaxing place. Ideal for watching a video on the TV or reading a book from the selection provided after spending the day at the beautiful Lac de Rochereau or visiting the many historic villages and chateaux nearby. The fully-fitted corner kitchen provides ample room for preparing meals, with a fridge-freezer, cooker, microwave, toaster, etc. A large range of cooking equipment is provided along with enough crockery and cutlery for serving up to six people. The large dining table has 2 carvery chairs and 2 dining chairs. There is a washing machine, as well as a clothes dryer, iron and small ironing board. In addition, there is a small double sofa-bed provided, which is suitable for small children only.

A new wooden staircase leads to the 1st floor accommodation, the landing, leads to the large double bedroom, which has a wooden floor, high vaulted ceiling and original oak beams. The two windows have beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. The bedroom is well furnished with a pine double bed, bedside tables and lamps, a large rug and cream-painted wardrobe, chest of drawers, long dressing mirror etc. The shower room has a tiled floor with shower, toilet and hand-basin and plenty of storage for your belongings.

Outside the gite has its own private patio area, however,the spacious garden and driveway is shared with Sunflower Cottage. Patio table and chairs together with sun-umbrellas, loungers and BBQ are provided. Our orchard just across the road provides extra space for parking, picnics, games or just relaxing in the sunshine.


All fuel, electricity and water is included in rent. Bed linen is provided (with beds made up prior to your arrival).



 

Kingfisher Cottage is set in a rural farming hamlet where the Vendee, Deux Sevres and the Charente all meet. It is a quiet and safe area, ideal for a relaxing and interesting holiday. Just a couple of minutes walk through the hamlet is a beautiful chateau, still owned and lived in by the descendents of the original family. Past the chateau there are open fields, woods and streams, making the area perfect for walking. The nearest boulongerie is in Bazoges-en-Pareds which is 2 kms away, an historical and interesting village with a Donjon (medieval tower), and garden, all open to the public. There is also a bar and exceptional restaurant. A car is essential to be able to enjoy all this interesting and historical area has to offer. Within 15 mins drive is the leisure lake, Lac de Rochereau for boating, picnics, fishing, walks and swimming in summer. Less than 15 minutes drive from the cottage, is a fabulous open-air heated swimming pool. Fully supervised,it has a water chute, toddlers pool, shady pergolas, andlarge grassy areas for picnics. It is open from 28th June until 31st August. Prices are 3 euros for adults and 1.5 euros for children. (Please see images 8 & 9). This area offers something for everyone. From ancient and historical villages and chateaux to leisure lakes for swimming, boating and fishing. Visit the Mervent Forest with its beautiful lake. Ideal for walking and boating. Within the forest is a theme park and zoo or spend a day at the award winning village of Vouvant. Golf and horseriding are within easy reach, as is the magnificent Atlantic coast. Take a BBQ and have dinner on the beach while watching the sunset from one of the most westerly points in Europe. La Rochelle, a busy and vibrant fishing port, with is many restaurants serving food from all over the world, is not to be missed. Take a boat trip to the Ile de Re or Fort Bouyard. The cottage comprises 1 bedrooms in total; 1 double. The property also has 1 double sofa bed located in the Ground floor. This gives room for up to 4 people.

There is room for 4 in the living room and 6 in the dining room. The open fire can be used to create a comfortable atmosphere. To prepare food you will find a cooker, an oven, a microwave, a fridge, a freezer, a kettle, a toaster. You will also find a washing machine, a clothes drier, an iron and ironing board. The owner has also provided cutlery, crockery, glassware, cooking utensils.

The cottage is in a quiet area but you may hear occasional noise. It has a west facing garden, a east facing patio area, a barbeque. If you are driving there is private parking with the outside areas of the house having external lighting.

The cottage is right beside walking.

Close to the cottage you will find swimming, sailing, boat hire, fishing, cycling, horse riding, historic sites, a museum, shopping areas, a restaurant, a food shop.

Within easy reach of the cottage you will find a beach, water skiing, wind surfing, golf, a sports center, a zoo, a theatre/cinema, a themepark.
